This is a personal post but I would like to hopefully raise a little awareness of Bronchiolitis.

I recently took a short break from work after my 6 month old daughter came down with what appeared to be a little bit of a cough.

My little girl lost her appetite for solid foods one morning but continued to take breastmilk for 24 hours as per doctors advice at such a young age as long as a baby is taking milk they are still OK, however the following day she also lost her appetite for milk and cool boiled water and had a fever of almost 39.

I contacted the Dr and she was booked an emergency appointment the same day. Once the Dr saw our daughter he expressed his concern and admitted her straight to the childrens ward at our local hospital.

Our usually smiley, happy, chatty and excitable daughter was very quiet, lethargic, in and out of sleep still refusing food, milk and water with a temperature still of almost 39.

After assessment and whilst waiting for the Dr my baby was in a deep sleep for around an hour but then woke up struggling to breathe. I picked her up and took her straight to the nurse on the ward to get help as I knew myself that something was not right.
Within no time at all my baby was being checked by a team of nurses and Dr's all standing over her to help her and in that moment I crumbled and knew that this was serious.

She had become extremely dehydrated and was unable to breathe on her own in no time at all she was on a breathing support tube and was being administered fluid through a cannula and was then also placed on a drip.

After many blood tests she was taken to HDU where we spent the worst night of our lives. Tests came back that she was positive for Bronchiolitis and her x-ray showed she also had mucus in her lungs which they had to help her bring up.

After almost a week stay in hospital my baby was finally getting better she was off the breathing machine for 24 hours and was able to come home and has since continued to go from strength to strength and is back to her normal bubbly, laughing, smiling, chatty self.

I will post in the comments the signs to look out for but please always follow you instincts it's saved our baby's life xx
