Some of the beliefs we carry about pain aren't ours originally.

They came from a throwaway comment in a GP appointment. Something a physio said years ago. A parent who told you to push through. A diagnosis that became an identity.

And once they're in, they're hard to shift, not because they're true, but because nobody ever offered you a different way of looking at it.

That's what this post is for.

The story you tell yourself about your body and your pain shapes how your body responds to it. This is something that is backed by neuroscience.

If any of these sound familiar, whether they came from you or someone else's words, I'd invite you to try reframing the thought instead. Not as a fix, but as a starting point. Your body isn't as fragile as it's been made to feel. And understanding what it actually needs is where things start to shift.

With this change in outlook, your body will be able to respond better to treatments and move freely without fear of reinjury.

I've held some of these beliefs about my own body too. I know how convincing they can feel. But beliefs can shift, and when they do, the body tends to follow.

Which one landed for you? Drop it in the comments.

Of course I want to know where your pain is.

But that's rarely where the conversation ends.

Here's something that changes how most people think about their body...

Pain doesn't always show up where it starts. Your body is one connected system, not a collection of separate parts. Nerves, fascia, joints and muscles all communicate with each other constantly.

When something is overloaded or restricted in one area, the signal doesn't always stay local. It travels.

Your tight neck might be coming from your thoracic spine. Your sore knee might be a hip that isn't loading properly. Your low back might be connected to how you're breathing. The area that hurts is often compensating for something happening elsewhere.

Treat only the symptom and you're turning off the smoke alarm without checking for the fire.

But it's not just about structure.

Your experience of pain, how intense it feels, how quickly it flares, how long it lingers, is shaped by things happening well outside the muscle.

Poor sleep turns the volume up on pain that was already there. Stress keeps your system on high alert, making everything feel more intense. A heavy week at work can make an old injury flare that had been quiet for months.

Your body doesn't separate your physical load from your mental load. Neither do I.

So when someone comes in, the questions I actually want to understand are: when did it start, what were you carrying around that time, what makes it worse, how are you sleeping, how's your stress?

Because all of that shapes how your body feels and more importantly, how it heals.

Pain is the end of a story. I'm trying to understand the whole thing.

Two completely different people, two completely different reasons for being on the table.

Same underlying approach, same results.

The first came in last minute to tackle ongoing stress related muscular tension.

Feeling heard, understood and comfortable to let their guard down, their body was able to respond well enough to feel great immediately.

The second had an ongoing knee issue stopping them training. With a walking holiday on the horizon they couldn't afford to miss.

Hearing the problem, working together and addressing the issues, they were able to hike and train again with no issues.

Different bodies. Different needs. Different sessions.

But the same approach every time

Understanding the whole picture before working on any part of it.

Because a knee problem and a stress response look nothing alike on the surface. But they both need the same thing underneath: someone who actually listens, and a plan that makes sense of what's going on.

This is how we allow the body to respond best to treatment, and this is how we build a confident body that can take what you want to throw at it.

The reviews say it better than I can.

If you've been dealing with something that keeps coming back, or you just want to feel better in your body, this is the work I do.

Drop a comment: what would it mean to move without that thing that keeps holding you back? 👇

I used to think the job was simple. Find the tight muscle. Work on it. Job done.

I don't do that version anymore.

Not because it doesn't work at all, but because for some people it doesn't work for long. And the people sitting across from me deserve more than a temporary fix.

My background isn't a straight line. Pro wrestling, working in bars and kitchens and schools, climbing, years of training on a body that kept collecting injuries and never quite recovered the way it should.

I came to this work with questions. I stayed because the answers kept getting more interesting.

Here's what I've learned:

Pain isn't just about tissue. It's about load. Physical, mental and emotional.

Stress trains the body to brace. Life overwhelm shows up in the shoulders, the hips, the low back. The body doesn't malfunction. It adapts. And sometimes those adaptations need unpicking carefully, not forcing.

My ethos, the thing that sits underneath everything I do, is this:

Create calm before creating change.

A body under threat protects itself. A body that feels safe, changes. And it shapes every session I run.

If any of this resonates, whether you're an athlete, someone desk-bound, or just a person who's been in pain for longer than they should have, come and have a conversation.

Berlin Marathon, here we come! 🏅

Mileage builds endurance, but it also loads the same movement patterns over and over.

That’s why today’s session focused on keeping the entire lower limbs moving freely

Looking into the fascia and how it all connects we worked on;

✅ Quads, hip flexors, calves – to keep stride length open and efficient.

✅ Hamstrings, calves, plantar fascia – to maintain power and reduce overstraining.

✅ Glutes- for hip stability and smooth transitions with every step.

When these fascial lines glide well together, your whole gait feels smoother, your nervous system stays calmer, and your joints take less impact.

Sports massage isn’t just about “loosening muscles”, it’s about restoring balance across the kinetic chain so you can:
✅ Recover faster
✅ Reduce injury risk
✅ Perform at your absolute best on race day

Whether you’re prepping for a marathon or just want pain-free, powerful running, this is the work that keeps you moving forward.

We're wrapping up 2024, and what a year it's been in the clinic!

🎉 Over 1,000 sessions completed
💪 Countless aches eased, muscles loosened, and clients set up for another year of living pain-free.

Of course, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing – there’s been a fair share of left-and-right mix-ups, some hilarious attempts at figuring out 'lying on your back,' and plenty of debates over how much pressure is 'just right.'

But jokes aside, I’m truly grateful to have spent another year helping so many of you tackle pain and smash your goals. Your trust, support, and kind reviews have made all the difference, and I can’t wait to see what incredible things you achieve in 2025.

I’ll still be working right up to Christmas (and back for a few days before the new year), so if you want to get ahead of the game – whether that’s for training, tackling the daily grind, or just feeling your best – now’s the time to book in! Let’s make 2025 your strongest year yet 💪
