Ageing skin was once considered an inevitable part of getting older, but looking much older is no longer necessary.

You CAN look younger than your passport photo, with the wondrous powers of Lbuccal massage, which reinvigorates and plumps up your skin, smoothing out lines and wrinkles in the process.

It's quick and not even painful, just relaxing: lie back have a little snooze, then simply get up and glow.

Perhaps good skincare starts in the garden.

Before there were shelves of serums, boosters, essences, and things with impressive scientific-sounding names, there were plants.

Take Sage for instance. It's one of those wonderfully unassuming herbs that deserves a little more attention. Traditionally valued for its cleansing, astringent, and soothing properties, it has long found its way into herbal preparations for both skin and hair.

It also contains antioxidant compounds, making it an interesting botanical ingredient for natural skincare. And, of course, it smells gloriously herbal, which is no bad thing when you're making your own preparations. Plus it's often used to help balance those pesky female hormones!

It is a lovely reminder that the natural world has been part of our beauty cabinet for centuries.

Over in The Still Room on Patreon, we explore wonderful herbs like Sage; their traditional uses, and the ways they can inspire us to create our own simple, natural skincare and home preparations.

Because sometimes the best beauty products are growing just outside the back door.

PLANT(AGO) POWER
Plantago is also known as plantain, but not the banana kind. This is an ancient plant with a long history of use in traditional medicine.

✨ Why it's handy:
▪️ Soothes sore throats & coughs
▪️ Helps heal wounds & insect bites
▪️ Supports digestion
▪️ Anti-inflammatory & antimicrobial
▪️ Rich in silica, allantoin, and mucilage for tissue repair

Whether you sip it as a tea, apply it as a poultice, or blend it into a salve, Plantago is one of those humble herbs that does it all — straight from nature. 🌱

There's more in The still Room. Check the link in bio to access that.

A golden flower with soothing power, calendula blossom makes a beautiful oil, perfect for easing irritation, calming redness, and supporting natural repair.

🏵️When infused in oils, creams, or balms, it nurtures sensitive, dry, or stressed skin.

You’ll need:
🏵️A clean glass jar
🏵️Dried calendula petals (fill jar halfway)
🏵️A carrier oil (olive, sweet almond, jojoba, or sunflower)

🏵️Fill the jar halfway with dried petals.
🏵️Cover completely with your chosen oil, leaving a little space at the top.
🏵️Seal and place on a sunny windowsill for 2–4 weeks, shaking gently every few days.

Skincare that starts in the garden.

Made with plants you've chosen, grown and picked yourself.

When plants are so generous with their gifts, why bother with synthetic ingredients?

And, if you make your own products, you can generally afford to buy and use top quality products, because you're not payign for advertising.

The light airy florets and seeds of fennel were often used to soothe windy babies in the past, but it also makes a lovely tea for adults, too, and I often mix it with peppermint, and lemon balm for a tummy soothing tisane.
For skin care, it's a soothing toner, and offers the skin assets like copper, iron, potassium, and zinc – all of which help keep it looking radiant and healthy.

It's known to help decongest, so can reduce puffiness around the eyes. A cooled brew of fennel seeds and/or flowers can be strained and applied to cotton rounds and then the eyes.

It often pays to be organised.
Especially nowadays, when some people book things up to six months in advance.

Some of those organised types have already reserved their spaces in December!

If you think you'll be in need fo some TLC around that time of year, it might be sensible to get your name in my diary fairly soon.

Message me to book.

Sometimes your skin benefits from a workout, and sometimes it just needs (or kneads) TLC.
Facial massage just makes your skin look fresher, younger and plumper.
If you add in Buccal massage, you'll also get a visible lift.
