Let’s talk about sebaceous filaments vs blackheads…

Sebaceous filaments are often mistaken for blackheads as they both appear very similar.

Blackheads appear as a dark, clogged pore caused by sebum buildup and oxidation whereas sebaceous filaments appear grey, are evenly spread and refill quickly.

Sebaceous filaments is a structure lining of your pore and acts as a biological channel, guiding oil from your sebaceous glands to the surface.

Physically removing sebaceous filaments won’t permanently remove them due to them being part of the human anatomy and us needing them, to maintain a healthy skin barrier.

You can however, reduce the appearance of them by:
•using an oil cleanser to break down and emulsify surface sebum.
•using an oil soluble chemical exfoliant such as salicylic or mandelic acid to pe*****te the pore and dissolve excess sebum.
•incorporating a topical oxidant to minimise the oxidisation reaction, preventing the tip of the filament from turning as dark.
