You’ve created lovely curls through the ends but the top’s still flat. Sound familiar?

Hairdressers, when you’re creating a bouncy blowdry, the direction you dry the roots in makes such a difference to the volume.

I always split the top into three sections. For the back section, I stand behind the client and overdirect the hair upwards to create lift at the root.

For the front two, I move round and stand in front of them. Yes, you might have to straddle them a little bit 😂 but it helps me dry the hair forwards, opposite to where I want it to fall.

When that hair falls back into place, the lift and bend we’ve created give it that body through the top.

If you’re drying the roots flat against the head, don’t expect a big bouncy finish just because you’ve curled the ends.

Think about your direction, keep your tension controlled and let the hair cool in that lifted shape. All those little details work together.

Hairdressers, your easiest client isn’t always your best training model 👀

Blowdrying hair that behaves exactly how you want it to is lovely but what happens when you’re back in the salon and it doesn’t?

The roots won’t smooth, you’re struggling with tension and suddenly you’re thinking, “Why can’t I do this on my own?”

It doesn’t mean you’re a bad hairdresser. You might just need more practice with that particular challenge.

This model is actually one of my clients who I learnt to blowdry on when I was 16 and starting out. Maybe she’s the reason I love blowdrying so much now 😂

On this training day, her extensions helped with creating the curl, but smoothing her natural hair needed more control. So we focused on tension, section size and getting the hair smooth before setting it.

Because creating a curl is only part of a bouncy blowdry. You need to know how to adapt your technique to the head of hair in front of you.

That doesn’t mean every beginner needs the hardest model possible. It means choosing a model that helps YOU work on what you’re struggling with, with me there to guide you.

My 1-2-1 bouncy blowdry training days are adapted to your experience, your confidence and your personal struggles.

The goal is for you to leave knowing what to adjust when things don’t go to plan not questioning whether you’re good enough.

Hairdressers, have you ever taken your brushes out and thought “Why does that look like I’ve done it with a wand?” 😂

You wanted a big, bouncy blowdry, but the curl’s come out looking tight, twisted and a bit flat.

Before you change your brush or question your whole technique, look at HOW you’re removing it!

This is something I see all the time in training. You’ve put the work into smoothing the hair and creating the curl, then you over twist the brush when you dress it out.

Lots of tiny turns can wind the section tighter, changing the finish you’ve just worked so hard for.

Think bigger movements: twist, pull ,twist, pull.

Gently rotate the brush, draw it through the section and repeat towards the ends. Give the hair room to release rather than continuously spinning the brush in the same spot.

Remember, you’ve already created the curl. You don’t need to keep twisting to make it curlier.

Slow this part down and watch the difference in your finish 🥰

“Why do you never show the finished result?” 👀

Trust me, if I had photos and videos of every finished bouncy blowdry, you’d be sick of seeing them 😂

But ALL my clients go home in pin curls. And when I say all, I mean ALL.

Whether they leave them in for a couple of hours or overnight, nobody walks out of my salon without them. I explain how to take them out at home, so they can enjoy the reveal when they’re ready.

Keeping the hair supported while it cools and sets helps the curls hold their shape. It doesn’t make a blowdry indestructible, but it gives it a better chance of lasting.

Because how many times have you heard, “My blowdry dropped ten minutes after I left the salon”? 🫠

My clients are paying for a bouncy blowdry, and I want them to get the most out of it. So no, I’m not taking their pin curls out early just to get a reveal for Instagram.

You want the after. I want their blowdry to LAST 😂🤍

Hairdressers, do your clients leave in pin curls, or do you take them out in the salon? 👇

You can love hairdressing and still feel stuck. I know because that was me.

I never wanted to give it up, but I was getting bored. I couldn’t see what was next for me or how my business was going to progress.

Then I started seeing bouncy blowdries and thought, I actually enjoy blowdrying, hardly anyone around me offers this, so why don’t I give it a go?

I trained, practised and started posting. I didn’t know where it would take me, but it gave me something to feel excited about again.

Now I’m building my business around something I love and teaching other people how to do it too. I’ve got my spark back, goals to work towards and a direction I want to go in 🤍

If you’re a hairdresser in that “what now?” stage, I’m sending you love. You don’t have to figure everything out today. Keep exploring the things that interest you, even the little idea you keep thinking about.

Mine was bouncy blowdries. And giving them a go changed so much for me.
