Piercing Awareness ✨

I don’t normally do posts like this, but I feel a little awareness is needed.

A client came in for a jewellery change on a forward helix that had originally been pierced by another piercer.

The piercing had been fitted with a curved barbell instead of a labret bar. Forward helixes can be a tricky placement to pierce and fit jewellery into, but that’s not an excuse to use unsuitable jewellery.

A curved barbell isn’t the correct choice for this placement. The shape can create unnecessary pressure and movement, making proper healing extremely difficult.

As you can see from the photo, there was also some irritation around the piercing, which is likely to have been aggravated by the unsuitable jewellery. Now that we’ve changed it to the correct labret bar, we’re hoping the irritation will start to settle and the piercing can get back on track with healing.

The right jewellery matters just as much as the piercing itself. ✨
