✨ The apex. You know you need one… but do you know WHY? 👀✨

One of the biggest things I want my students to understand is that an apex isn’t simply a blob of extra product in the middle of the nail.

It’s about creating structure.

Look at the side profile in these images 👆🏼

You’ll notice that the product is:

✨ Thinnest around the cuticle
✨ Builds gradually through the nail
✨ Has the most product through the apex
✨ Tapers back down towards the free edge

This creates a beautifully balanced nail without making the entire enhancement thick or bulky.

But where should the apex sit?

This is where understanding nail structure becomes important.

There isn’t one exact measurement or position that works for every nail. The length, shape and individual nail all influence how we build our structure.

And then comes something we sometimes forget…

The apex grows out too. 👀

As the natural nail grows, the enhancement moves with it. Look at the final image and you can clearly see how the original apex has travelled further down the nail.

This is why maintenance appointments aren’t simply about applying product to the regrowth.

We need to assess the nail again and restore the correct structure and balance.

Because beautiful nails aren’t created by using more product.

They’re created by knowing where the product needs to be and why. 🤎
