If you’re dealing with knee pain, quad strength isn’t optional—it’s essential 📶
Spanish squats are my GO TO and a perfect place to start. They load your quads without overly stressing a potentially symptomatic knee joint.
They’re also VERY versatile:
➡️ To make them harder: Add load by holding a dumbbell or plate
➡️ To make them easier: Add a pause/hold at the bottom (isometric)
🏋🏼♂️ You can even use them in your warm-up, before your compound lower-body lifts
Bottom line: If you want knees that feel and perform better, building quad strength is key—and Spanish squats are a great place to start. If you haven’t already, give them a go 👆🏼

Tight and stiff- or just weak?
Stiffness isn’t always about tight muscles or restricted joints. Sometimes, it’s your body’s way of protecting weak or underused areas.
In these cases, building strength and stability is key.
Strength supports mobility ALWAYS ⚖️

ANKLE MOBILITY 👟
Restricted ankle dorsiflexion can limit performance and contribute to overuse injuries. Stiff ankles = knee or hip pain.
For example, when performing a squat, limited ankle dorsiflexion forces your body to compensate by increasing hip flexion to achieve the movement, which can alter mechanics and add unnecessary strain elsewhere.
ALSO: don’t sleep on plyometrics when it comes to your ankles! Stiff ankles aren’t ALWAYS a mobility issue — they can stem from poor tendon health and low elasticity. Adding explosive work and plyometrics into your training can help with this 🤝🏼
