Hormones are not the enemy. But how we use them matters.

One of the things I find fascinating in clinic is the difference between putting hormones into the body in a chemical form, whether synthetic or bioidentical, and using those same hormones homeopathically in potency.

They are not doing the same job.

When we give hormones in a biochemical dose, we are adding something into the system.

That may be needed at times. I am not anti hormones. There are women for whom HRT, progesterone support, thyroid medication or fertility medication has been absolutely necessary and life changing.

But there is a very important question we often forget to ask. Can the body process what we are putting in? Because hormones do not just 'top you up' and then quietly disappear. They need to be metabolised. They need to be cleared. The liver, bowel, bile flow, kidneys, lymphatics and nervous system all have to be able to cope with what is being introduced. And this is where some women get into trouble....

They are told their hormones are low, so they add more in. But their system is already inflamed, stressed, congested, exhausted or overly sensitive. So instead of feeling balanced, they feel wired, irritable, heavy, swollen, anxious, foggy, spotty, weepy, overstimulated or just 'not right'.

It is not always because the hormone is wrong. Sometimes the system is simply too sensitive to be pushed. This is where homeopathic hormone potencies can be a beautiful option.

When we use something like Folliculinum, Progesterone, Estrogen, Throidinum or other hormone sarcodes in potency, we are not adding a measurable chemical dose of that hormone into the body. We are using the energetic imprint of that substance to communicate with the system.

The aim is not to override.
The aim is to stimulate regulation.
It is a little bit like reminding the body of a rhythm it has lost.

In clinic I might use Progesterone in low potency to support women with a history of miscarriage, particularly where there is a pattern of not being able to hold the pregnancy well. Not because we are giving progesterone in the conventional sense. Instead we are gently encouraging the body to remember and strengthen that function.

I also use Folliculinum and Progesterone in rhythm, sometimes alongside the moon cycle, for women whose own cycles have become confused, suppressed, erratic or out of sync.

Folliculinum may be used to support the estrogenic, follicular phase picture; that rising, building, ripening phase.

Progesterone may be used to support the luteal phase picture; the holding, calming, nesting, stabilising phase.

This can be especially helpful in women who feel as though their cycle has lost its internal intelligence. The body may still be trying to cycle, but the signal is weak, chaotic or easily disrupted.
Instead of forcing the body from the outside, we are asking it to respond from the inside.

That is the key difference.
Chemical hormones say, “Here is the hormone.”
Homeopathic hormone potencies say, “Can you remember how to regulate this pathway?”

For sensitive women, that distinction can be key. Because some women cannot tolerate being pushed. They react to everything:

Supplements flare them.
Hormones flare them.
Detoxes flare them.
Even “gentle” things can feel like too much.
With these women, the answer is often not to keep adding more and more.

The answer is to support the organs, open the pathways, calm the nervous system and then use subtle remedies that encourage the body to do the work itself.

This is why I never look at hormones in isolation.

Heavy periods are not just a uterus problem.
Hot flushes are not just an estrogen problem.
PMDD is not just a progesterone problem.
Miscarriage history is not just a “low hormone” problem.
There is always a wider system involved.

The liver has to clear.
The bowel has to move.
The nervous system has to feel safe.
The endocrine glands have to communicate.
The immune system has to stop shouting long enough for the body to listen.

This is where homeopathy can be so clever!
It does not just ask, “What hormone is low?”
It asks, “Why has the body lost rhythm, tolerance or regulation in the first place?”

And that is the part I love; when we get this right, women often say things like:

“My cycle feels more like mine again.”

“I didn’t get the usual rage before my period.”

“My body feels less reactive.”

“I feel like something has switched back on.”

“I finally feel like my system is working with me.”

Of course, there are times when biochemical hormones are needed. There are times when functional support is needed. There are times when we need testing, proper prescribing and medical input. But I think we need to stop assuming that adding more hormones is always the most intelligent answer.

Sometimes the deeper work is not adding.

Sometimes it is reminding.

Sometimes it is clearing.

Sometimes it is helping the body find its own rhythm again.

That is the difference. Homeopathic hormone support does not bulldoze the system. It whispers to it. For many women, especially the sensitive ones, the whisper is exactly what the body has been waiting for.

If you have used hormone support before and felt worse, more anxious, more wired, more swollen or just unlike yourself, I would love to know.

Did your body feel supported, or did it feel pushed?

I’ve been asked a few times recently ‘why don’t you share forward facing client photos?’

The simple answer is … because they don’t want to…

The longer answer is … because many of my clients choose this space precisely because they don’t want the spotlight.

For some, having their photo taken feels uncomfortable, overwhelming, or simply not enjoyable. Others value their privacy. Some just want a great haircut without feeling like they need to perform for social media.

So while I occasionally share forward facing hair photos (with permission), you’ll rarely see faces here.

My priority has always been creating a salon experience that feels safe, comfortable, and centred around the person in the chair, not the content I can create from it.

Sometimes the most important part of a hair appointment is knowing you can simply exist without being photographed!

Instead, today you can have a photo of me 🤪
