Does the microneedling device really matter?

The sun comes out… and suddenly pigmentation and melasma walk through the door like they own the place 👀

And here’s the bit most people are never told:
Treating pigmentation is a two-man job.
The client has a job.
The clinic has a job.

And if either one drops the ball, the whole thing fails.

Your job at home is to help slow down new pigment forming. That means using the right ingredients to inhibit melanin production in the skin, and wearing SPF every single day to protect against UVA - because UVA stimulates melanin production.

No SPF? No consistency? We’re fighting a losing battle.

Our job in clinic is to help move the existing pigment up and out through the skin layers.

That might involve treatments like microneedling to stimulate collagen and increase skin cell turnover, followed by exfoliating treatments such as chemical peels to help slough away the pigmented dead skin once it reaches the surface.

But - and this is a BIG but - microneedling for pigmentation needs to be done properly.

The wrong device, wrong needle depth, or wrong technique can actually make pigmentation worse.

Go too deep and you risk irritating the very layer where pigment activity is happening, potentially triggering more melanin production - the exact thing we’ve worked so hard to calm down.

Go too shallow and you’re not getting the collagen stimulation or skin turnover we need to help shift the pigment.

This is why knowledge matters.

Also, let’s talk about the part nobody wants to hear…

💥 Pigmentation often looks worse before it looks better 😩

That does not always mean the treatment is failing. It can mean pigment is moving up through the layers of the skin before it sheds away. But clients need to know this BEFORE they start, not panic halfway through because nobody explained it.

🔹 What is Thermavein?

🔹 Does it hurt?
I'll be honest... it's not a spa facial! 😅 Most people describe it as a quick hot prick or tiny sting. The treatment itself is very fast though, and most clients are pleasantly surprised by how manageable it is.

🔹 How many treatments will I need?
Most veins disappear immediately, while others may need a second session. Every skin and vein is different, so we'll always give honest advice based on what we see.

🔹 can I have it on my nose?
Yes! The little veins around the nose are one of the most common areas we treat.

🔹 What about red spots that have appeared as I've got older?
Those little bright red dots (cherry angiomas) are usually excellent candidates for Thermavein treatment.

🔹 Will the veins come back?
The veins we successfully treat are gone, but your body can develop new ones over time due to genetics, sun exposure, hormones and the general joy of getting older! 🙈

🔹 Is there downtime?
Very little. You may have some redness, tiny scabs or slight swelling for a short time afterwards, but most people get straight back to normal life.

Facial thread veins can be one of those things that nobody else really notices... but to you, they're all you can see.

My lovely client first came to see me a few weeks ago about a small spider vein on their face. To most people it was barely noticeable, but it had reached the point where it was the first thing they saw in the mirror every morning.
