As many of you are aware, we recently shared footage showing damage being caused to the windows of three small businesses and the sub station.

The footage was only shared because, at that stage, no parent or guardian had contacted any of the affected businesses, and we needed help identifying those involved. As soon as we were given the relevant names, the video was removed.

We want to make it clear that we hold no animosity towards the child. Children can make mistakes, and we do not feel that any personal circumstances or additional needs should be discussed publicly.

Our concern is the response following the incident. Three independent businesses have been left out of pocket, not only for replacement glass but also for specialist window frosting and repairs. So far, there has been no offer to assist with the clean-up, contribute towards the damage or even apologise to the businesses affected.

As a parent myself, I know that it’s hard, things happen beyond our control. However, I would personally make every effort to contact those affected, apologise and offer whatever help I could to put things right.

Small businesses are already facing rising costs, business rates and increasing financial pressure. Unexpected damage like this has a real impact on the people working hard to keep local businesses open.
