All you need to know about our paraffin wax treatments.

Paraffin wax treatments luxurious way to soften and moisturise the skin and are offered with a manicure or pedicure.

Paraffin wax has been used for its healing properties as far back as Roman times where it was commonly used in massage therapy. Today it’s a popular addition to a manicure or pedicure and is also used as an aid in treating sports injuries, arthritis, eczema, inflammation, psoriasis and stiff or sore joints.

Paraffin wax is soft at room temperature and has a natural softening and smoothing effect on the skin. applied to the skin without any pain or discomfort.

The paraffin used in treatments is colourless, odourless and has been tested to ensure it is hygienically safe. When part of a manicure or pedicure, paraffin wax treatments are usually administered via a bath or tub containing molten wax.

The procedure involves painting several layers of the wax onto the hands or feet using a brush. As the wax hardens, the paraffin's natural emollient softens skin and the heat opens the pores.

To retain heat the hands or feet can be covered which will allow the wax to be absorbed for around half an hour.

The wax doesn’t adhere to the skin so removal is pain-free. As it’s removed it will take with it any dead skin cells and leave your skin feeling soft and smooth. The hands or feet are then given a light massage and an additional moisturiser is applied.

Both the heat and the wax can be of great benefit to dry cracked skin on the hands and feet by intensely moisturising and providing a waterproof coating to help retain the natural oils produced by your body.

Paraffin wax baths can help to relieve the pain caused by arthritis and rheumatism. The heat from the wax increases the blood flow to the area, reduces swelling and relaxes the muscles allowing more freedom of movement in the joints.

Heat treatments using paraffin wax work well for sports injuries to help speed up recovery by increasing blood flow to the affected area and reducing inflammation.
