Meet the beautiful Darcy ❤

This lovely girl is starting her rehab journey after a diagnosis of iliopsoas myopathy - a major hip flexor of the hind limb which can show as lameness, shortened stride & pain........

Following a gait analysis, posture check & muscle palpation I started Darcy off with a treatment of clinical canine massage to help address some tight areas especially her para spinal muscles as well as looking at releasing some areas of restricted fascia especially her neck/shoulders as it was also noted about coat changes in this area, all is adds up to compensatory issues due to the nature of the injury

Just sharing this from Canine Arthritis Management......nope massage & hydro are not "spa" days 😕

I also read an email this week from an animal complementary therapy provider based in America who wrote about recent research into massage which found:

🐾 Massage does not mask pain as the way some medications may but it helps to regulate the inflammatory processes
🐾 Circulation could be improved as techniques used bring oxygen & nutrients to healing tissues and also removes metabolic waste
🐾 Decreases muscle tension
🐾 Improves mobility but not only addressing muscle but also fascia
🐾 Aids recovery from injury or surgery as part of a rehab plan

So tell me again..........is clinical canine massage a spa day??

Myth: "Integrative therapies like hydrotherapy or clinical massage are just optional 'luxury spa treatments' for dogs."

THE FACT: They are essential, evidence-backed medical interventions. Arthritis may begin in a single joint, but it quickly becomes a whole-body disease. Because dogs naturally alter their posture and movement patterns to shift weight away from chronic pain, they develop severe secondary muscle soreness, tension, and joint stiffness elsewhere.

The Takeaway: Physical therapies don't just pamper a companion; they actively manage this compensatory pain, improve lubricating joint fluid movement, and safely preserve functional range of motion to slow down structural declines.

Some important information for those using pet cooling mats at the moment 🙂

Other ways to help keep our four legged friends cool include:
🐶 Making tasty ice cubes from bone broth or ice lollies from natural yogurt adding fruit
🐶 Keep curtains or blinds closed during the day
🐶 Provide plenty of access to cool water, keeping hydrated is a must!!
🐶 Avoid walks unless super early or super late when temperatures hopefully drop, test the tarmac....the 5 second rule place your hand on the ground if it's too warm for you it's too warm for them
🐶 Use cool mats or place wet towels down avoiding covering dogs as this can trap heat

This sunny weather is playing havoc with my diary 🐶
Once again appointments will need to moved to earlier or later in the day when it's hopefully cooler or moving to another day in the interests of comfort for your dogs

Today is an admin day at Macoby as catching up with paperwork/admin, so far............

With the weather set to be a tad warm this week I will be rescheduling appointments in the interests of comfort for your dogs, this may mean me visiting super early or later in the day or re booking for another week when it's not so warm/muggy, I will keep checking the weather forecast as we go along..............
