Trying to gain weight? Eating more isn't always the answer.
If every big meal leaves you bloated, heavy or exhausted, simply piling more food onto the plate can make eating feel like a chore.
Sometimes the smarter place to start is with smaller, nourishing meals that you can actually digest and enjoy — then gradually build from there.
Healthy weight gain isn't about forcing food down. It's about finding what your body can comfortably handle.

Feeling bloated or uncomfortable after eating?
Rather than immediately blaming individual foods, there are several things I’d want to understand first.
In this video, I share 3 things I’d look at as a nutritionist when someone regularly experiences bloating after meals.
If this sounds familiar and you’d like to understand what may be contributing to your problem, drop me a message.

Trying to gain weight? Simply eating bigger meals isn't always the answer.
If you're already getting full quickly, bloated or heavy after eating, forcing more food onto the plate can make the whole process harder.
Sometimes the smarter approach is making the food you already tolerate more nourishing and calorie-dense, then gradually building from there.
That's where modern nutrition and the Ayurvedic idea of supporting Agni — digestive capacity — can work nicely alongside each other.
Build the digestion. Build the nourishment. Then build the portions.

🌿 Have you ever heard of the lungwort plant?
Pulmonaria officinalis has been used in European herbal traditions for centuries, particularly for coughs and irritated respiratory passages.
But does the modern research actually support the traditional reputation?
I've taken a closer look at both sides — including its plant chemistry, antioxidant and inflammatory research, the lack of strong human clinical trials, and an important safety issue involving pyrrolizidine alkaloids.
This is exactly the kind of herb I enjoy researching: traditional knowledge on one side, modern evidence on the other.
Neither needs exaggerating.

Does your food ever feel like it’s just sitting there after a meal? 🌿
Fennel seeds have traditionally been used for bloating, trapped wind and post-meal heaviness.
In Ayurveda, fennel is used to gently support Agni — digestive fire. But there’s also some interesting modern research behind this traditional use.
A 2025 laboratory study found that fennel tea affected different areas of stomach smooth muscle differently — relaxing the upper stomach while increasing contractions in the lower stomach.
It doesn’t prove fennel treats digestive problems, but it gives us an interesting physiological explanation for a very old practice.
In the new BIHP article, I look at:
