Aaaaahhhh..
I've been given some REALLY gentle stretches to mobilise the Pelvis & Lower Back at my most recent McTimmoney Chiro Treatment.. 😊
& breathe..
The human body is designed to walk, run, and sprint.
All of these movements require your pelvis to twist and rotate.
If your Sacroiliac (SI) joint is stuck, you lose the ability to safely transfer rotational torque from your legs up through your spine.
The third and final vital movement of the SI joint is pure Rotation.
When you step forward, one side of your pelvis must tip backward (counter-nutation) while the other side tips forward (nutation). This alternating kinetic rhythm is what keeps you out of pain.
To restore this, bilateral exercises like standard squats won't cut it.
You must expose the joint to heavy, single-leg rotational forces. Split squats, deep step-ups, and single-leg bridges force the SI joint to independently mobilise under load.
But exercise selection is only part the battle.
If your respiratory mechanics (breathing) are too shallow or you hold your breath during the exercise, your nervous system will not allow the joint to release.
Breathing exercises and deep tissue massage enable you to focus on your breathing and help calm your nervous system allowing the joint to release.
