Truro BID
Information on Truro BID's activities & businesses matters for those working in Truro City Centre. We first became operational in October 2007.
Truro Business Improvement District (BID) is a business led initiative which gives businesses the power to raise funds locally to be spent locally on improving a defined commercial area. Truro BID represents circa 380 Truro businesses and from 2007 to 2017 invested £3.4million into the City centre. We’re now in our fourth 5 year term, which runs until October 2027. We are independent from local authorities and other statutory agencies and deliver projects over and above the baseline service provided by them. Some of our work includes:
∙ Delivering and funding Truro’s annual City Centre Christmas Lights scheme (along with past donations from Lionel and Carol Knight).
∙ Enhancing the festive offer with street entertainment, large scale projections on buildings, traffic-free main shopping streets, markets, and supporting Coppice Theatre shows and Father Christmas grottos.
∙ Delivering the Truro Trend high-profile Catwalk at the Cathedral.
∙ Initiating and supporting one day markets; e.g. the Duchy Fair’s Cornwall Shop Small Markets and Truro Antiques and Collectables Markets.
∙ Joint-funding with Truro City Council the annual floral hanging baskets each spring.
∙ Working with Visit Truro to promote the city, including contributing financially to printed marketing activity (Truro Guides) and Visit Truro’s website.
∙ Representing the interests of businesses on plans for the Pydar Regeneration and Truro Town Fund investment plan.

Truro city centre businesses can again request to borrow a Reindeer Christmas Light to enhance their festive window displays. Reindeer are available in three approx. heights: 4ft (Stag), 3ft (Doe) and 2ft (Baby).
Allocating, distributing and collecting nearly 100 reindeer lights is a time consuming task for our small team. So this year to request one, please complete the online form (link in comments) and select your preferred size.
Reindeer will be allocated on a first come, first served basis from mid-November. All businesses must apply via the short online form; previous recipients will not automatically receive a Reindeer Light unless they've completed the form.
Businesses should display the reindeer with the A5 sign provided which directs customers to for Saturday 21 November, and switch the light on that afternoon to coincide with Truro’s automatic Christmas lights switch-on.*
The reindeer were purchased in 2020 by Truro BID using government Accelerated Capital Funding from the Truro Town Deal.

As communicated last week, proposed changes to on-street parking in Truro city centre are being considered by Cornwall Council to help increase the turnover of spaces and improve access to parking for residents and visitors.
Cornwall Council are consulting on proposals to introduce a new system of on-street parking management at a number of locations in Truro - Castle Street, Little Castle Street, River Street, Kenwyn Street, Lemon Street, Tabernacle Street, Chapel Hill, Hendra Road, St George's Road, Stations Road.
All the locations are currently subject to free, limited-waiting parking restrictions ranging from 30 mins to 4 hours depending on the location.
Under the proposals, the existing free parking periods would be retained, but drivers would be required to obtain a parking session when they park. Drivers would then have the option to extend their stay by paying for additional parking time, up to the maximum stay permitted at that location.
There would be no charge for the initial free parking period. Parking sessions could be obtained using: a parking app, telephone; or a payment parking machine.
The proposed parking machines would accept card payments only and not cash.
We urge businesses to have their say by completing the online survey, which is open until 2 October 2026. See link to survey in comments.

If you see someone sleeping rough, please help by contacting the organisation StreetLink and calling 0300 500 0914 or visit their website at the address in the visual.
StreetLink can be used by anyone in England and Wales to send an alert about someone over 18 who is sleeping rough or preparing to sleep rough.
Don't make an alert if the person is begging or engaging in anti-social behaviour, unless you believe they are rough sleeping.
When you submit an alert:
- The details go to local outreach teams in the area
- These teams (mostly working at night) try to locate the person, assess their needs, and offer support
- The goal is to help people access the right services and move away from homelessness
StreetLink itself doesn't provide accommodation or go out to search for individuals — it connects members of the public with local outreach teams who can help.

As you will be aware Cormac have started the traffic management associated with works in Boscawen St, which will be taking place until Friday 6 November.
We've contacted Cormac to ask them to reduce the size of the compound on Boscawen St. However they have said that they're unable to as the machinery being used in Lower Lemon St needs to be stored in the compound at night.
Please see below information given to us by Cormac and Cornwall Council.
Cormac are carrying out further repairs to granite setts on Boscawen St and granite paving on Lower Lemon St, focusing on areas not previously repaired.
On Boscawen St, granite setts will be lifted, cleaned and relaid in six locations. On Lower Lemon St, paving outside Mannings Hotel, Michael Spiers and opposite will be repaired, with foundations rebuilt where needed for a safer, longer-lasting surface.
Work will be completed before the Remembrance Sunday parade and Christmas events.
Road closures and 24/7 traffic management will remain until work is finished for safety and curing. Cormac will signpost an alternative route, maintain pedestrian access and can be contacted on 0300 1234 222.
Businesses, we will share further updates when available and understand concerns about the closures. For more details see the Cormac info on our website.

We're bringing back the popular Truro Antiques and Collectables Market to the city centre next month on Wednesday 7 October from 9.30am to 4pm. The market, which we previously delivered until 2023, will be at an exciting new location, outside the front of Truro Cathedral at High Cross.
Visitors and residents will be able to browse and buy a wide range of distinctive, pre-loved antiques and collectables items outside the city’s historic cathedral.
The October antiques market will begin on a slightly smaller scale than the former Lemon Quay event. We hope to grow the Truro Antiques and Collectables Market and bring it back for further dates next year, with more traders taking part.
We currently have space for an extra one of two antiques sellers to trade. To request more information about having a stall, email [email protected].

A belated good luck to Soundwave Records who opened this summer at Unit 1, Lemon Street Market.
The shop is a dedicated space for music lovers, collectors, and curious ears across Cornwall, selling new and used vinyl, CD's and DVD's.
Soundwave, which also sells collectables and apparel in-store, have joined forces with other indie businesses to bring a Halloween Extravaganza to Lemon Street Market on Saturday 31 October. See link in comments for details.
