Bleach is not the enemy.

High lift tint is often pitched as the gentler option. It is not kinder by default.

It uses strong developer and ammonia (or alternatives) for its lift, and it lifts fewer levels than bleach.

The main practical benefit is a predictable processing time, which suits a stylist who wants to work on other clients in between. For a small lift on virgin hair, it can be a reasonable choice.

So, that is a scheduling benefit, not a hair health benefit.

One chair, one specialist means one client at a time, so processing is never left to a clock. Colour is checked frequently by eye and by touch, and lightener comes off the moment the hair is ready. As all hairs on your head are different it means that different parts process at different rates so nothing is left to over process.

There’s benefits to both but please don’t think bleach is the enemy, often it can be a cleaner, gentler, slower process that doesn’t equate to mass damage and breakage.

If going lighter is something you are considering make sure you ask how lift will be monitored, not just how long it will take when you have your consultation.

September ☀️

A month of holidays, sunny days, back to school, back to college, a salon revamp, back to pottery, a lot of curls, some misting deep hydration treatments, some Pintura, some root covering, a lot of dry curl cuts. Some long, some short, some complete restyles. Some regular clients and some I’ve not seen for a little while. Sadly no available space for anyone new in September.

So what’s next? More of the same. A lot more of the same. October always seems to fly by, probably as there’s a school half term at the end of the month.

You may have noticed that I’m not hanging around the socials as much these days.

I’m not interested in seeing ai slop which is what most things are now. I even saw a ‘curly hairdresser’ that was completely ai, not a real person at all. Brands advertising curly hair products with ai images. It’s all fake and so misleading and manipulative.

I’m also not interested in my little space being my own personal tv show.

Here’s a few of my clients from this week. We’ve had restyles, colours, trims, treatments … a whole lot of everything. Some of my clients don’t want to be featured, some avoid social media completely and that’s absolutely fine by me.

My book swap corner has been super popular this week, there’s some corkers in there at the moment. So popular I’ve needed to give it a bigger space. Please remember you’re more than welcome to swap a book, borrow a book, take a book or donate a book at your appointment.

I’m out of stock of a couple of items but have some orders going in next week so don’t panic if you can’t see what you want online. It will be coming back.
