Unpopular opinion: your team meetings aren’t failing because your team is difficult.

They’re failing because the meeting itself has no real purpose.

And I say this as someone who ran a salon and used to call meetings simply because… that’s what you’re supposed to do, right?

I’d gather the team, we’d sit down, and within ten minutes it had turned into a vent session.

Nothing got solved.
Nobody felt better.
I left feeling drained — and honestly, a little embarrassed.

The meeting wasn’t the problem though.

The lack of structure was.

When there’s no clear reason for the meeting, no direction, and no defined outcome — your team fills that space with whatever’s been building up all week.

Complaints.
Silence.
Side conversations.

Or worse… they agree with everything you say, then walk straight back onto the floor and carry on exactly as before.

A meeting without a purpose isn’t a meeting.

It’s just everyone standing still together for 45 minutes.

Most salon owners think the answer is shorter meetings — or skipping them altogether.

But a 15-minute meeting with intention will do more for your team than an hour of open discussion ever will.

Your team aren’t the problem.

A year ago my life looked bigger on paper.

More staff.

I thought that was what progress was supposed to feel like.

Then everything got clearer.

Now I finish work with energy.
I enjoy my clients more.
My head is calmer than it’s been in years.

Nothing looks more impressive from the outside…
but it feels better in every way.

I’ve been having a lot of conversations lately and realising this stage catches a lot of us off guard.
