10 years of Driftwood.

It’s strange to think that back in 2016, Driftwood was just getting started. In those early years I was still working full-time alongside running the business, before eventually making the move into full-time self-employment.

Since then, a lot has changed, including a move from Heaton to our current home in Wallsend, and adding a second float tank.

Over the years, thousands of people have stepped into a float room here for all sorts of reasons. Some were stressed, sore or exhausted. Some wanted a bit of peace and quiet. Others were simply curious to experience floating for themselves.

One of the nicest parts of reaching ten years is seeing how many familiar faces have kept coming back. Over time, some of those have become friends too, which has been one of the most rewarding parts of running Driftwood.

Running a small independent business for a decade has definitely had its ups and downs. We made it through a pandemic, periods of uncertainty, and some difficult times personally too.

Life outside the business changed a lot as well. I bought my first house, turned 40, became a dad and lost a parent. Floating has been something I’ve personally come back to through all of that, and I don’t think Driftwood would still be here if I didn’t genuinely believe in what the experience can offer.

At the risk of this turning into an acceptance speech, I should also say I couldn’t have done it without the support of family and friends over the years.
