And the number indicates how long it would take your skin to burn in sunlight.

SPF doesn’t give an exact measurement as everyone’s skin is different and will burn differently as a result.

However, a general rule is that the higher the SPF the longer you can stay in the sun without burning (and some common sense)

SPF 20 is offering you 20 x the time without burning than if you had nothing on your skin at all.

No sunscreen blocks 100% of UVB rays, SPF does offer you the higher protection the higher the number.
