It’s been a while since I’ve posted and shared a set of nails (lots happening at PP HQ!), and even longer since I last created a tortoiseshell design - but with the arrival of Shellac Cherry Apple red at PP it was the perfect excuse to revisit this timeless look 🍒✨

Tortoiseshell nail art is all about layering and translucency. This design is built with seven layers in total, each contributing to the final depth and richness. Between each layer of markings, I apply a thin wash of a custom-blended muted brown — a mix of Shellac Leather Goods, a gorgeous chocolate brown and Plexi builder gel — to create that signature honeyed warmth.

The design includes two layers of brown markings: one gently diluted with isopropyl alcohol for a diffused effect, and one more defined. The look is completed with a final layer of black detailing, carefully overlaid to create natural dimension and movement.

Each step is cured and refined for a smooth, seamless finish 🐢💫
