Lets talk....Moisturise or Hydrate?

Water is essential to ensuring stays and . Moisturisers and hydrators both address the importance of making sure the skin is getting all the it needs to fight dryness and dehydration, premature signs of aging & environmental damage.

Hydration refers to the water content within the cells that leads them to swell, be plump and bouncy, as well as reflecting light. If water flows out of the cells and the cells are dehydrated, they can become shriveled, which leads to dehydrated skin.

Moisturising is about trapping & sealing in moisture to build the skin’s protective barrier, prevent water loss and keep the skin soft and smooth. A moisturiser’s job is to reduce the amount of water that evaporates off of the skin to minimise transepidermal water loss.

Drinking plenty of water is still the easiest way to hydrate your skin, but dehydrated skin may also need to supplement with a topical hydrator that binds and draws water into the cells. Natural allow the skin to improve its ability to hydrate itself over time, so products that contain & marine extracts are the key ingredients to look out for.

Moisturisers can be lighter or heavier, formulated for different seasons and different Warmer months may call for a lightweight gel or light lotion, while dry, cold and windy winter weather may require heavier products with or dimethicones. These ingredients are known not only for their and effects but also for their ability to counter the signs of aging and free radical damage.

For a light, oil-free moisturiser works best, usually in the form of a lotion. These have less oil and more water content. For a lotion or cream will work, while a or an cream is best for types.

For best results, hydrators & moisturisers should be applied morning (before sunscreen) and night. Applying your hydrator after you moisturiser is preferred as it doesn’t peel.
