🌿 Do your dreads need a bit of a refresh? 🌿
One thing a lot of people don't realise is just how much stuff can build up inside dreadlocks over time. Dust, smoke, sweat, hard water, shampoo residue, festival adventures, campfire nights... it all finds its way in there!
I've now added a Dread Deep Cleanse service for those dreads that are feeling a bit heavy, dull, or just in need of some TLC.
It's honestly quite satisfying (and sometimes slightly horrifying!) seeing what comes out of a proper deep cleanse.
A good cleanse can help your dreads feel lighter, fresher, and bring back some of that lovely softness and movement that build-up can steal away.
Perfect if:
🌱 You've had your dreads for years and never had a deep clean
🌱 You've been to festivals or spend lots of time around campfires
🌱 Your dreads are feeling heavy or taking ages to dry
🌱 You just fancy giving them a bit of love
No judgement here either. Dreads are brilliant at collecting memories... and occasionally a surprising amount of everything else!
Drop me a message if you'd like to book in or find out more.
Your dreads work hard. Treat them to a proper bath.

An article I wrote for our folklore society :)
🌿 Plantlore 🌿
Folklore and Ferns
Ferns are among the oldest plants on Earth. It is believed they existed even before the dinosaurs, appearing approximately 390 million years ago.
These ancient plants thrive in a variety of habitats, including moorlands, heathlands, and, most commonly, forests.
The reproduction of ferns has long been linked to the Faery world. It was once believed that Faeries carried fern seeds to help the plants propagate, as people never actually saw fern seeds themselves.
This mystery gave rise to the belief that carrying a fern seed upon your person could grant invisibility. This idea even appears in William Shakespeare's Henry IV, where a highwayman assures his accomplice:
"We have the receipt of fern seed; we walk invisible."
Ferns were also believed to possess healing properties. In A Description of the Western Islands of Scotland by Martin Martin from 1703, it was recorded that mixing fern leaves with egg white and applying it to the face could cure bloodshot eyes and temporary blindness.
In more recent times, science uncovered that ferns reproduce in a remarkably unusual way. Rather than producing seeds, they spread microscopic spores from clusters on the underside of their fronds known as sori.
These spores, when they land in suitable conditions, grow into a tiny plant-like structure called a gametophyte. This small, heart-shaped form, often no larger than an adult thumbnail, contains both male and female reproductive structures. Through this fascinating process, the next generation of ferns begins.
Ancient plants with Faery secrets hidden beneath their leaves... perhaps fern lore was always a little magical after all. 🌿✨
Tiny note for accuracy: Shakespeare wrote fern seed rather than fern seeds, so I adjusted the quote to match the original wording.
