Our little late crop is reaching full bloom at last. Calendula is a wonderful anti-inflammatory , but it doesn’t store well. Buy it from a supplier and it’s always brown and oxidised. At Lyonsleaf we with local growers, so we infuse organic sunflower oil with our blooms within days of picking. We believe that’s the secret to lyonsleaf . It is the reason our herbal skincare is so potent and effective.

This year the has hit our main supplier badly and they can’t supply as much as we had hoped.

So we decided to grow a late crop at Lyonsleaf HQ. It’s a bit of an experiment, we don’t know how long they will flower, but even if we don’t get much of a from it it will help decide when and where to plant next year to adapt to the changing climate. We might even over winter these plants for an early crop next year.

It’s so great to have an excuse to get out if the office and get our hands back in the soil on work days too 😊

So exciting!! Our little late crop of Calendula at Lyonsleaf HQ has just come to fruition. I’ve made the first tiny pick today - there will be lots more soon though. These flowers will be dried and used (before they have time to degrade) to infuse organic sunflower oil with all the incredible anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and wound healing compounds that calendula is famous for. Then we will use that deep orange calendula oil to make our legendary Lyonsleaf balms. Hi-five to our local growers that supply the bulk of our flowers straight from the field. We couldn’t do it without you!
