If one of your moles changed, would you notice?

I wanted to share a personal story with you and explain why I’m so passionate about offering mole mapping in my clinic.

A little while ago, I noticed that one of my Mum’s moles had changed. Although it may have been nothing, I knew it was worth checking, so I carried out mole mapping and sent the images to dermatology for review.

The response came back almost immediately, recommending an urgent referral.

Mum then had a small procedure to remove the mole, along with a small amount of the surrounding tissue, which was sent away for testing. The whole appointment took around 30 minutes, and she said the procedure was very manageable with minimal discomfort.

I’m so relieved to say that the biopsy results came back showing the mole was not cancerous.

Going through this with my Mum reinforced exactly why I believe mole mapping is so important.

Most changes to moles happen gradually, making them incredibly easy to miss. We see our skin every day, so subtle changes often go unnoticed.
