Photoshoot day. Let’s go.
BBC Inside Out North West visited Born Manchester to film a real trans makeover, capturing the whole experience from the makeover itself through to that wonderful first look in the mirror. 💄✨
It’s always lovely looking back at this footage because it shows what Born is really about. Not just makeup, but helping someone relax, enjoy the experience and see themselves in a whole new way.

A softer side of my work today with the lovely Liz.
I recently shared a short video of Liz talking about her experiences, and these are a couple of the finished photographs from her visit.
The makeup here was all about softness, balance and definition. Nothing too heavy, just enhancing her features and creating an elegant, polished look.
It’s quite a contrast to the much more dramatic makeup I shared with Jassi yesterday, and I think that really shows the range of looks I get to create at Born.

Tina has a fascinating story to tell.
In this short clip, she talks about growing up in the 1960s, being encouraged to enjoy things like cooking, knitting and dressing up at home, then later being pushed towards more traditionally masculine activities.
It’s a very personal little glimpse into how different expectations around gender were then, and how those experiences stayed with her.
We’re really pleased to be sharing more of Tina’s story through Born.

Back in 2020, BBC Inside Out came along to find out more about Born, what I do, how I got into this work and the people I help.
It feels slightly surreal watching this back six years later, but also really lovely to see how much has happened since then.
Born is still here, still evolving, and I’m still doing the work I love.

I loved creating this look, especially the gold eye detail, before stepping behind the camera for the finished portraits.
One of the things I enjoy most about my work is adapting the makeup to the individual. Different features, different skin tones and different styles all need a considered approach. There’s never just one formula.
