"We knew we would be saying goodbye soon, but that doesn’t make this message any easier. Trevor Sorbie has taught this industry an immeasurable amount about hairdressing, creativity, innovation and disrupting expectations, and even in death he’s been breaking the rules, being so open and transparent about the impending end of his life. An inspiration until the very end.

In the mid 1980s, my sister would make a 200-mile round trip every six weeks to get her hair cut at Trevor’s Covent Garden salon. She was young, and couldn’t afford the great man himself, but she wanted that cachet of being a client of his salon. His shampoo sat on her shower shelf. I remember thinking, “That’s where I want to go when I grow up”.

In 2012, returning from maternity leave, my first big project was to interview Trevor at Salon Smart, as he and the team staged a brilliant hair show inspired by the Covent Garden street performers so close to his salon. Meeting him for breakfast, I was frankly terrified and overwhelmed at the prospect of working with such a bloody icon, whose name was mentioned in the same breath as Vidal Sassoon and Leonard. But he was an absolute gem, rude and funny and bolshy. He gave me confidence I was sorely lacking, having been at home with a newborn for the previous eight months. He was brilliant up there on stage.

I had the pleasure of spending time this week with Bree, Giuseppe, Nathan and Ryan, the team that is leading the charge now at the salon group. They talked of how proud they are of his faith in them, and how they’d spent a wonderful day at his home recently, laughing constantly, surrounded by cards and messages from well-wishers across the country. “Who knew dying would be so much fun?” he joked. Doesn’t that say everything?

Goodbye Trevor. You leave a legacy that is absolutely extraordinary. You have inspired and mentored some of the very best hairdressers working today. You have created looks that have caused jaws to drop. You have helped restore the confidence of thousands with your My New Hair endeavour. And you’ve built a business that will now carry on your name with real heart and soul and artistry. Thank you from us all."

Finally!! Yay. First day back at work. Ive missed you guys. My first lady sent me away with cake ❤️😘 she missed me that much 🤣.
Lots of skin tests done today and I finally got to do hair. And more importantly it was my mum’s hair. I havent been abke to visit other than talk over her back gate as they have been shielding so it was totally fitting that I got my hands on her mop today.
Now for a very very large G&T 😄.

Hi everyone. I am sure you have all heard the good news that we are returning to work.
There are a few things that will be a little different for a while.

Firstly if you do not feel ready or safe enough to have your hair done as yet please do not worry as I shall be here for when you are ready.

If you do not have a mask I will provide one for you.

For those that have scalp application colours I will be in touch if I have not already done so to sort skin tests before your next appointment.

For those that have colours there will be a one off extra fee from £10 to cover the extra colour I will be needing, as we all now have rather alot of regrowth and fading to cover.

Please allow longer for your appointments as the way we will be doing things it will unfortunately take longer for each appointment.

If you have a ‘family’ booking please make sure there is only one person in the room with myself at a time.

I have reviewed my price list and there will be a small increase that will now be permanently in place.
I have not increased my prices in quite a few years so it was in the pipeline anyway and now we have the added costs of PPE to cover.

It is imperative that if you or anyone you have been in contact is or has been feeling unwell with in the last 14 days to call me so that we can reschedule your appointment.
I will have contact and trace app active so if I arrive and find it is alerting me and you have not contacted me prior to the appointment I will not be able to enter and will still have to charge my full fee.

I will be providing all my own sanitizers and hand wash that you are also welcome to use.

I will only be accepting card or bank transfers from now please.

No hugging. I know that ones a toughie.

I’ve been getting ready for the return whilst we’ve been unable to work and I’ve upgraded my card machine to a contactless one so I will no longer be taking cash payments or cheques.
Once we have been given the green light to come back to work I shall be contacting those that are on my list for appointments. I promise I have not forgotten about you.
As I’ll imagine you will have already guessed there will be some changes to how we do things so I will also go through all this when I contact you.
Hopefully it will not take long to get used to.
