What if one haircut could help restore a child’s confidence?
Today at Carter’s Cuts, we witnessed the powerful answer. Tommy H-M bravely said goodbye to five years of hair growth so it could be donated to The Little Princess Trust, helping provide a real-hair wig, free of charge, to a child or young person who has lost their hair through cancer treatment or another medical condition.
Tommy chose Carter’s Cuts for this special haircut well in advance, making the appointment part of his commitment to supporting such an important cause. For Tommy, today was about far more than getting a new hairstyle. The hair he had spent five years growing will now help another young person through an incredibly difficult time.
This cause is especially close to our hearts at Carter’s Cuts. Having personally experienced the loss of my dad and other family members to cancer, Tommy’s story touched me deeply. It was a privilege to support him, and I could not say no to being part of something so meaningful.
We were proud to carry out Tommy’s haircut free of charge, allowing the focus to remain on his generous fundraising and hair donation. It was a heart-warming moment for everyone at Carter’s Cuts—one that reminded us how kindness, compassion and community can make a lasting difference.
And the generosity does not stop there.
Tommy has also been raising money alongside his hair donation, with Swizzels Matlow generously matching the funds raised, helping his efforts go even further.
At Carter’s Cuts, we were honoured to carry out Tommy’s charity haircut and play a small part in his journey.
As barbers, we see every day the difference a haircut can make to someone’s confidence. Today was different. This was a haircut that could help restore confidence to someone Tommy may never even meet.
Watching all that hair finally come off after being grown for such an important reason was a brilliant moment—and one we will not forget at Carter’s Cuts.

Today started like any other day, but it turned into something I'll never forget.
As I arrived at the shop this morning, I noticed a young lad standing outside looking through the window. I went over to have a chat with him, and after a few minutes of conversation, I learned that he was homeless. I couldn't just walk away, so I invited him inside, gave him a complimentary haircut and a cold drink.
As we talked throughout his haircut, I discovered he was only 26 years old and had previously served in the military. Having served in the Army myself, I instantly felt a connection. We spoke openly, shared experiences, and it reminded me that sometimes all someone needs is for another person to take the time to listen.
It really hit home how quickly life can change and how, sometimes, good people simply find themselves facing incredibly difficult circumstances.
By the end of our conversation, we made an agreement. If he commits to working towards getting off the streets, making positive choices, and rebuilding his life, I'll personally sponsor him through my barbering course. I'll give him the opportunity to gain a recognised barbering qualification, learn a trade, build his confidence, and work towards a career he can be proud of.
Today wasn't just about a haircut. It was about restoring dignity, offering hope, and reminding someone that they still have value and a future worth fighting for.
I've always believed everyone deserves a second chance, and if I can use my skills, my experience, and my business to help someone shape a better future, then that's exactly what I'll do.
I can't do it alone, but together we can make a real difference.
