University Hospital Wishaw has been shortlisted in Scotland’s Dementia Awards and named as a finalist in the Best Hospital Care Initiative category for their project titled ‘Styles and Smiles’.
The salon, Styles & Smiles, opened in April to offer patients free hair styling and barbering services.
The salon gives patients with dementia the opportunity for social interaction and the ability to maintain a routine that incorporates dates, days and times.
Established through a partnership between NHS Lanarkshire, Serco, Summit Healthcare and New College Lanarkshire, the salon features two height-adjustable back-wash sinks, three hairstyling chairs, an overhead hood dryer and a seating area.

Hi everyone. Welcome to the new page of Styles & Smiles. If I could ask everyone to give the page a wee share, a like & even a wee review to help build & kick start the page up that would be fab!
Every Tuesday for a few weeks we will be in wishaw general in ward 9 where a hairdressing salon has been set up at the beginning of the ward. We will be giving patients from wards 8-12 ( I think it is ) hair cuts, shampoo & blow drys & sets. The barbers will be in on a Friday for the men in the wards also! Being hospital bound alot of the older patients can't do this for themselves so us being there just to help give that wee helping hand to try make them feel a wee bit better goes along way. So if you have a relative in the wards mentioned let them know about us, I'm sure nurses etc will be going round wards anyway to let them know.. & remember Its all FREE FREE FREE 😁
The hairdressing girls & barbers are from Motherwell College
