Skin booster or filler? They're not the same thing, and they don't do the same job.

A skin booster is tiny injections of hyaluronic acid, spread through the skin. Think of it as a drink of water for your skin, not a shape change. It improves hydration, texture and glow, gradually, over several weeks.

Dermal filler is placed precisely, in one area, to add volume or shape, lips, cheeks, jaw, chin or under the eyes. Results are visible straight away.

Skin feeling dull, dry or a bit crepey? That's usually a booster question. Lost volume or shape somewhere specific? That's usually a filler question. Plenty of people benefit from a bit of both, at different times.

Choosing who treats your face is a big decision, and a good practitioner will never mind being asked the hard questions. Here's what's worth asking, wherever you go.

Are you a registered prescriber, and can I check your PIN? Will I have a proper consultation before anything is decided? What are you using, and is it licensed for use here in the UK? What's the plan if something isn't right afterwards? And the big one: would you ever say no to me?

If a practitioner hesitates on that last one, that tells you everything you need to know. The right person turns down treatment that isn't right for you, every time.

First, we talk. What's bothering you, what you're hoping for, and anything in your health history or medication that matters. No treatment happens at this stage, it's just a conversation.

Then I take a proper look, at your skin and at how your face moves when you frown, smile or talk. That tells me far more than any photo could.

You'll get honest advice, including if my answer is "not yet" or "no". If something isn't right for you, I'll say so.

There's no obligation to go ahead. Sometimes we can treat the same day, sometimes you'll want another visit to think it over. Individual results vary, and it's always your decision, never mine.

Skin booster, Profhilo, polynucleotides, filler. Different words, and honestly, different jobs.

Skin boosters (Profhilo is one well known example) are tiny droplets of hyaluronic acid spread through the skin to improve hydration, texture and glow. Not designed to add volume.

Polynucleotides work differently again, they're derived from DNA fragments and work by encouraging the skin's own repair process, often chosen for tired under-eyes or fine, crepey skin.

Dermal filler has a different goal altogether: volume, structure and shape, in lips, cheeks or the jawline. It isn't there to improve skin quality.

Which one suits you depends entirely on what you're trying to achieve. That's a conversation, not a guess.
