PORES

Some facts about about our pores and in particular the concern some of us have about enlarged pores…

❤️ Everyone has pores - they are normal and we need them !!

•Pores are tiny openings in the skin’s surface which allow oil, perspiration and other substances to be released from the body.

• They contain hair follicles and glands that release oil to keep our skin soft and comfortable . This oil (sebum) also helps remove dead skin cells by bringing them to the surface.

• Hair follicles also help regulate our body temperature, reacting to stimuli from the brain ( we all get goosebumps when we are cold - as well as when we are frightened or excited!)

•The number of pores on our bodies varies from person to person but it is believed we have an average of 5 million and 20,000 of these are on our face (it’s true!)

• Pores DO NOT open and close! They are always open so that they can do their job!

❤️ On to our concerns…….

🙁Enlarged pores

Many of us who are conscious of our pores being ‘large’ or ‘open’, will be relieved to know that other people don’t really notice them and we are usually being over critical of ourselves. However, to some people ,the appearance of their pores, especially if they appear to have changed, can cause genuine concern.

It is true that pore size can change and there are a number of reasons they can appear bigger than normal:

•If they have become clogged this can stretch them and they don’t return to their original size.

• The texture of our skin can change in response to our hormones .

• As we age, we start to lose the collagen and elastin which gives skin its flexibility and support structure, ultimately weakening our skin and affecting the size of our pores.

•Pores can also be damaged through sun exposure. ☀️😕

❤️ What can we do to help?

😊We can look after our skin with skincare products which are right for our individual skin type and condition.

Some people find their skin tends to be oily or they have an oily ‘t- zone’ ( combination skin ) .

This may mean their pores have a greater tendency to become clogged .

We are lucky that Tropic has developed several products especially designed to keep skin clear by removing excess sebum which if left could stretch pores or cause blackheads or breakouts 😕( The good news is this skin type is less prone to lines and wrinkles!😀)

😊 By keeping our skin clean, hydrated and protected we can help prevent our pores becoming clogged and stretched .
