Why we’re NOT reaching for the laser yet… 👀

This brow is a perfect example of why successful PMU removal isn’t simply about choosing the fastest tool — it’s about understanding what pigment is sitting in the skin and how it may respond.

Look closely at that final image. You can actually see the old tattoo shrinking and contracting within the brow as we progressively lift pigment from the skin.

🟡 So why am I sticking with saline?

Because we have a significant amount of yellow residual pigment present.

There is also scar tissue present and my chosen lifting solution Saline PMU & Microblading Removal I find always does wonders for the brow hair regrowth and scar revision.

Yellow is notoriously challenging in removal. Depending on the pigment formulation, laser has limited effect on yellow components, and treating a multicoloured PMU pigment can remove or alter the darker components while leaving the yellow increasingly exposed.

In a case like this, I don’t want to chase the darker pigment with laser while potentially being left with a bright, stubborn yellow residue.

Instead, we’re using saline lifting, which doesn’t rely on a specific wavelength targeting a particular colour. The aim is to progressively lift and reduce the tattoo as a whole — including those difficult lighter components.

And the progress is right there 👉 less saturation, a smaller footprint and more natural skin showing through after each healed session.

Removal isn’t always about “What can we laser?”
Sometimes the more important question is “What should we NOT laser yet?”

My client has opted for my Brow Rescue package which includes unlimited removals and new set of brows once healed. Here I have used a combination of Saline PMU & Microblading Removal solution lift and laser.

If you would like to refresh your brows then removal isn’t always necessary sometimes brows can be worked over if faded enough. In this case only removal could be done due to the saturation of the old ink, the blackness of the old shape and we wanted to give her sleeker new skimmer brows so the old ink had to go.

🚨 THE BROWN OMBRÉ LIP TREND — WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT IT.

This is exactly why brow pigments do not belong in lips.

The images in this post show the reality of what can happen when brown pigments designed for brows are implanted into lip tissue. What may look like a fashionable brown ombré immediately after treatment and let’s face it it’s actually not a great after either, brown ink can easily become cool, grey, muddy and extremely difficult to correct once healed.

And the problem goes much deeper than simply saying, “brown is the wrong colour.”

Brown PMU pigments are blends of different colourants. In the brow pigments shown in this post, the CI information includes components such as yellow, white (titanium dioxide), carbon black and red colourants.

That matters enormously when we start talking about long-term healing and, eventually, removal.

⚠️ WHITE / TITANIUM DIOXIDE can make laser removal more complicated because titanium dioxide may undergo colour changes, including paradoxical darkening, when exposed to certain laser wavelengths.

⚠️ YELLOW can become increasingly prominent as darker components are removed or fade. Yellow can also be particularly challenging to target effectively with commonly used tattoo-removal wavelengths.

⚠️ CARBON BLACK + OTHER COLOURANTS mean we are not simply trying to remove “brown”. We are dealing with the individual components that created that brown — and they do not necessarily respond or fade at the same rate.

This is why understanding the CI numbers and actual pigment composition matters.

But there is another major problem with this particular treatment…

THE VERMILION BORDER HAS BEEN IGNORED.

The pigment has been taken significantly outside the client’s natural lip tissue and onto the surrounding facial skin to manufacture a larger lip shape and Cupid’s bow that isn’t her natural anatomy.

Lip tissue and facial skin are not the same tissue. Their structure and characteristics differ, so pigment placed across that boundary can present and heal differently.

We started with Saline PMU & Microblading Removal as laser is not an option right now.
