I realised I’ve been a bit quiet on socials over the last few months! I’ve not gone anywhere, I’ve just been a bit useless at getting content 🫠

It’s important we keep our horses feeling tip-top during the busy months. Furthermore, with the dry weather and hard ground we’ve been experiencing it’s even more vital to keep our horses muscles working correctly and feeling their best!

Myofascial release (MFR) is a hands-on, holistic therapy that aims to reduce pain, restore motion, and relieve stress. It involves applying gentle, sustained pressure to identify and treat stiff areas in the fascia, the connective tissue that surrounds muscles, organs, and bones. MFR therapists use a combination of traction, elongation, shearing, twisting, and compression to break up abnormal cross-linkages in the fascia and restore mobility.

This is such a fabulous visual on how fascial restriction works. It can affect all areas of your body no matter where it’s located.
Notice how he slumps over. You’ll see this often in the aging population. What you’ll also notice with aging is restricted range of motion. The fascia can become less elastic, it has less moisture , and becomes ā€œbrittleā€ as we age. You often see this with the aging by shuffling and being hunched over as they walk.

This is relatively a new concept to the fitness field. The fascia can’t be seen with X-rays or MRI’s. This is why it’s so often overlooked.

A brilliant video that demonstrates how Fascial restrictions can affect range of movement and how compensatory movement patterns then develop.

This doesn’t just affect people, the same thing happens to horses too! Healthy fascia is vital as it supports all movement throughout the entire horses body, even small restrictions can lead to a chain reaction of
compensation through the fascial chains 🐓
