Stunnnnnnnn hun 💁🏼♀️
One question I get a lot is “are your tattoos temporary”
The short answer is no BUT.
It is slightly controversial having PMU artists do tiny tattoo courses whilst some apprentices work for free for years in a studio before they’re “let loose” on someone’s skin.
What’s right??
Look, we all have to start somewhere.
You either persist and you learn.
You either have the artistic flare or you don’t.
And not all people can do all things.
SOME fine line tattooists are doing a bad job that is pi***ng “proper tattooists” off but hey it’s giving them a cover up opportunity to do too 🤷🏼♀️
Are they taking work from tattooists because they’re more affordable?
The only difference between PMU and tattoos is a few mm depth under the skin, the voltage the machine works at and the pigment used.
PMU requires a light hand, so that’s a great skill to carry over to tattooing.
For me - I grew up wanting to be an art teacher but got bullied at a levels causing me to hate that environment.
I loved art, smashed A level art and my paintings are still displayed at the school. I then wanted to tattoo but working for free was not an option for me.
It wasn’t until I brought eyeliner ink that I thought HEY I can do this! On my tattoo course you HAD to have been in PMU for at least two years to have experience with the skin. Some of the girls really struggled with the training because naturally they weren’t arty, so it’s like someone trying to draw who can’t. There’s nothing to say they can’t keep on training, trying and persisting to grow like any other artist.
Personally, after working tattooing faces - every millimetre in everything I do is super crucial and that’s why I’m a perfectionist in everything I do.
There are times I refer to other artists as what I currently do is fine line, black ink and smaller work. I won’t take on anything outside of my scope but not everyone is ethical 💰
All I’d say is - research your artist, do you like their work? Do you think it’s worth what they’re charging? Are the lines consistent or shakey? Fineline is an art in itself as with more traditional tattoos there is no whe
