Grey Blending PART 2
I’m trying to be thorough with explaining not only how the colour will look today but also how the colour is most likely to fade off and what our process will look like moving forward.
Grey blending isn’t a one time service and that’s it you have perfect grey hair. It will still take some maintenance and tweaking to help that colour grow out as seamless as possible using highlights, lowlights and glosses.

Grey Blending PART 1
This was a very long consultation as I wanted to make sure we both were on the same page of what to expect from today’s appointment, how to maintain it herself at home and the expectations of the fade off and what her appointments will look like moving forward.
Grey blending is one of the hardest services us as hairdressers have to perform which is mainly due to the fact that it’s not something we’re trained to do. We’re quite literally trained to do the opposite.
Also every single head of grey hair is unique to the individual so each application and process has to be different because each growth pattern of light to dark is different which we have to mimic as close as possible.
If only there was a ‘text book’ process we could do to achieve consistent results every time but unfortunately that isn’t the case.

The main focus was on technique and application over content creation and social media as Lynsey is wanting to get more confidence behind the chair after setting up her own space.
With Blonding being one of the ever changing techniques I focused on what the majority of people are asking for these days.
Clients are wanting to go longer in between appointments.
Clients are asking for much more lived in looks.
Clients want beautiful hair without having to be at the salon every 6 weeks.
They also don’t want to be sat in the salon all day long!
So this lived in blonding technique is the perfect look for the client who is asking for just that.

We wanted to tone it down for winter but still maintain the dimension.
Using my go to technique for maximum dimension whilst maintaining contrast which I’ve taken a few years to master and can adapt the application depending of what the desired outcome may be.

Listen to what she was saying regarding lighter for summer and darker for winter. It wouldn’t have made any sense to go through with loads of highlights when she wanted to feel darker.
We did a full head lowlight with my award winning lived in technique. Then I root melt everything together to ensure a seamless blend. With having such a lived in look we’re able to stretch the appointments to 6-8 months.

This is the daughter of one of my longstanding clients who I know has been dying to get in my chair for a while and was a treat for her 18th birthday.
Listen closely to the words she was saying regarding what she did and didn’t like.
Key words that stood out for me was she
1. Didn’t want a ‘money piece’ 2. She needs it to blend especially when her hair is up as she wears it up a lot for work. 3. She likes the fact it’s darker towards the roots and likes the blonder ends with still some natural going through
Listening to what they don’t want rather than what they do sometimes will endure and happy outcome as sometimes clients can want and show multiple different colours and styles looking for your direction as the stylist. So finding out what they don’t want sometimes gives you more of an idea of what look to achieve.

The request: I just want my natural ginger with some lighter pieces.
My main goal was to eliminate the darker sections and at least get them to a copper which actually lifted out pretty well considering this colour had been done a few times using permanent colour (not done by me).
Some tweaks to be done on the next appointment but we were both so happy with the outcome.
Once I lifted the dark sections to a copper level 8, I shampooed and towel dried and applied MWV 2 parts 7.4 1 part 9.04 1:2 5 vol to mids and ends to get me closer to a blank canvas.
Then I blast dried and scattered some balayage foils throughout to add some dimension back.
Shampooed and towel dried and root melted using shades eq 07C into 50g 010WG 40g 09G 20g 09AA
Lightened using Redken Flashlift 20vol
Toner using Davines Color MWV 2 parts 7,4 1 part 9,04
Global gloss using Redken shades eq
Zone 1: 07C
Zone 2&3: 50g 010WG 40g 09G 20g 09AA
OLAPLEX added to all formulas

After a really difficult 24 months.. this really means the world.
Social media is always preparing you for when your career blows up.. none prepares you for when it takes a 360 from what you imagined it would be.
I honestly felt like my entries this year were not up to par with my previous years. With so many things going on in real life I just felt like I wasn’t able to show up on social media like I have for the past 8 years, I never lost the passion but I got so caught up in the ‘this is what your career and work should look like’ I lost all sight of what truly matters..
What really matters to me is the people who are constantly showing up and supporting me. The weekly clients, the clients who continue to come back to me even when times where hard.
This past 2 years I’ve really learnt a lot about putting your energy into the right places. Which is why this nomination means more to me than the other years.
The other years I had a chip on my shoulder. I thought the world owed me something.. it turns out the world ia giving me exactly what I need and deserve.. it’s up to me how I interpret that and where I let that lead me. Going forward I will be doing what brings me peace, happiness and joy for my actual job behind the chair. I’m no longer being told what I should or shouldn’t be.. if it brings you happiness then that is what you should be doing.. forget everything else.

I will forget be grateful and honoured to be recognised alongside the best of the best all over the world. It will always feel like I’m an imposter but I’m learning to accept my hard work is being recognised.
