The Quiet Barber

Well it's been 9 months since last September and us junior barbers are ready to graduate! It's been a lot of laughs, nerves and fiddling with hair, clippers and foils but we got there. 11 exams and many, MANY assessment tasks later here we are.

7 of us made it to the end of a tough year of remote online learning, in person classes, masks, visors and avoiding the Corona pirates but we did it!

Thank you also to all of the people who sat for me, trusted me to prove my skills during my assessments.

Darren trusted me to keep his lovely wild man feeling while shaping up his beard. It was his first time in a barbers chair and my first time with a full beard.

So we kept it natural with a shapeup, jaw line trim and natural freehand scissors and clipper over comb cut. Keeping the fullness while taming the whispies.

Beards are fascinating.

Last day of barbering assessments.

Today it was my turn in the chair volunteering my hair for a fellow student. It's was a fair swapsies as he introduced me to my first ever beard cut when I cut his beard. I introduced him to bleach and bold colour! 😉

It's the darkest blue I've been so far, I'm usually a blue teal fan, but today's it's Navy Blue!

One day left of college before I qualify and I'm looking for a gent with a full beard that wants a haircut and a beard trim and shape up. Or. Just a beard trim / shape up. Are you able to get to York college on Monday with your lovely full beard? I need you!

Today was a happy pink colour day for the lovely Jacqueline who trusted me as her barber today. We did a colour, trim, redo of her undercut and an arrows hair pattern. Another fun day of being a trainee barber.

Without my lovely clients I would not be able to show my skills so I really appreciate each person who sits for me during my assessments. Two more college days and it's all done. I'll be putting out calls for the last one or two people I need to find to complete my final bits of my qualification. ✂️💈❤️

Thank you Charlene for trusting me to be your barber. I needed someone with long hair in order to do a square layer cut for assessments today but also got to tick off many other elements in my assessment. Very happy I'm so much closer to filling my assessment book today.

Woohoo my lovely customer who came for a cut last week is back and this time we did her colour. A lovely rich dark purple.

Love how the highlights in her hair are adding texture and showing peeps of boosted purple colour. So excited and happy with how this turned out.

When a fire alarm goes off in the middle of your barbering practical assessment. What to do but have a selfie with your client in the downtime and then carry on and finish her haircut!

First assessment day and thanks to fellow student James I got do a short graduation and a beard trim.

First time truly up close and personal with a real beard. It's fascinating the directions it grows.

Who would like a free hair cut, beard trim and maybe you'd like to fully remove your beard and I can take from a trim, down to a goatee or chin line with pencil mustache before removing it all?

Today in class was fun, working on my fellow barber students to shampoo with Emma. Sorry I blooped once or twice and drowned your ears! Especially since I hate that happening to me! 😱

With I got to practice drying long hair and then straightening to smooth out the hair. Thanks for letting me play and practice on you Lorna

For a gal who doesn't even always use a brush on my own hair .. I'm learning lots of new skills I haven't used in almost a decade since I had my own long hair. 😉

Practice makes perfect and today was the first practice. 😊
