A chemical peel is a safe and effective way to improve the skin's appearance by exfoliating dead skin cells and stimulating the growth of new cells.

A solution of naturally occurring acids and medical grade active ingredients is applied to the skin for a few minutes. The type of peel can be tailored to the individual skin so can target specific concerns if necessary.

The 5 benefits of having regular chemical peels.
1. They keep the skin cycle ticking over. This normally slows significantly with age, hence, the more dull and drier mature skin becomes.
2. Improves texture and skin tone.
3. Stimulates new collagen and healthy cell growth.
4. Helps to clear breakouts and reduce pigmentation.
5. They increase the effectiveness of other skin care products, allowing active ingredients to pe*****te and be absorbed more efficiently.

Protect your skin barrier!

Our skin barrier forms the most outer layer of the epidermis. It protects our bodies from harmful external aggressors and pathogens. This layer manages our lipids (natural fats important for barrier function) and hydration.
Lack of moisture, central heating, hot showers, extreme cold outdoor temperatures that are associated with the winter months can play havoc with your skin.
Strengthening the skin barrier especially during the winter will help to:-
- Prevent dryness.
- Manage sensitivity and Rosacea prone to skin.
-Reduce breakouts and acne flare ups.
-Improve rough texture.
- Prevent flaky or itchy patches.

We need to-
- Still apply SPF!
- Preserve the acid mantle. Skin sits healthily at a pH of 4.75- 5.75. Too alkaline and the skin barrier will not function harmoniously. Water has a pH of 7!
- Tweak skin care products to include, occlusive moisturisers with hyaluronic acid to help reduce water loss and retain moisture; ceramides to promote a strong lipid layer; Vitamin C- obviously! and Vitamin E for its moisturisng and reparative benefits.
- Keep hydrated.
- Use a gentle cleanser and avoid over exfoliating.
- Optimise diet, think fatty acids!
- Sleep. 'Overnight skin goes into repair and restore mode' Dr Anna Persaud.
- Consider advanced skin treatments which will not impair the skin barrier, but instead encourage cell turnover and regeneration and in turn strengthen it. Active skin care products will pe*****te further and maximise efficacy. Furthermore, they will restore the skin's natural 'glow'.

Think Vitamin A!

We are all familiar with the benefits of Vitamin A (Retinols/Retinoids) in our skin care regimes,
- in encouraging the skin cell turnover
- allows for the sloughing of skin cells with hyperpigmentation
- in simulating collagen formation and reducing degradation

Although, knowing which type of Retinoid and concentration to use to suit your skin brings its own challenges. And in pregnancy, they should be avoided.

If we can optimise our diets to include Vitamin A rich foods, surely we can reap the benefits to our skin and general health from the inside out.

Think bright red and orange! Carrots, sweet potato, tomatoes and red pepper all contain Beta Carotene which is converted into Vitamin A.

Fruits to pack into our diets include mango, melon, grapefruits, tangerine and nectarine.

Vitamin A rich foods from animal products include eggs, salmon, beef liver, milk and cheese.. the list goes on!

The benefits of Collagen Induction Therapy (Medical Microneedling, Skin Needling)

Pore tightening.
- Micro-needling can improve and tighten enlarged pores resulting in less congested and more even skin.

Anti- ageing.
-Skin ageing causes not just lines and wrinkles but also dull-looking skin, lack of laxity and the loss of facial contours. Because micro-needling stimulates collagen and elastin production, this treatment help to improve signs of ageing.

Improving acne scars.
-Micro-needling helps to treat acne scars, promoting a smoother and healthier complexion.

Improving pigmentation.
-Because micro-needling stimulates skin renewal, it can help in reducing pigmentation.

Improving the appearence of sun damage.
-Micro-needling is effective treatment in reducing the appearance of sun-damaged skin on the face and hands.

Rosacea
- Reducing the appearence of blood vessels by increasing the density of the epidermis and reducing overall redness.

When will I see results?
-The length of time needed to see results depends on the skin condition to be treated. It can take between three and six months to see the full benefits as the body takes time to generate new collagen. These results can be long-lasting, depending on your overall health and lifestyle.

What is the downtime?
- Minimal. The area treated will appear red/sunburnt for around 24hours after. A broad spectrum SPF will be given to wear as your skin will be more sensitive to sunlight.

Is Medical Microneedling safe for all skin types?
- Yes. This is a minimally invasive treatment which leaves the epidermis intact. However, contraindications are; active acne, pregnancy and certain medical issues.

A course of Collagen Induction Therapy start at £500 (Includes Heliocare SPF) Please contact for up to date offers :-)
