WHAT THE FOX!?
York College Media Makeup HE

This concept is based around the fur industry and the ethical connotations surrounding the use of fur for the sake of fashion.

The image is supposed to show the juxtaposition of an animal wearing human skin versus humans wearing animal fur.

The image aims to raise the question “would you wear your own skin?”

A prosthetic fox snout was made and applied by myself to create a human/fox hybrid as well as a handmade bag mimicking stitched human skin to show this idea of juxtaposition.

GREED IS A NASTY BUSINESS
York College Media Makeup HE

This concept is based on the greed for money within fast fashion businesses.

Fast fashion companies are well established in the fashion industry and are popular with the average consumer. They describe low cost designs that are quickly transferred from catwalk to clothing stores.

Trends are introduced much more often nowadays which creates a vast demand. People want it, and they want it fast.

The quick turnaround means these companies cut corners any way they can which are often unethical and or non sustainable methods, prioritising wealth over anything else.

The headdress was made by myself entirely out of faux paper money which was individually folded to produce various origami shapes.

The image is the third of four that aim to shed light on ethical concerns within the fashion industry as part of my major project.

PLASTIC IS’NT FANTASTIC
York College Media Makeup HE

This concept is based around pollution and mass waste that occurs as a result of the fashion industry.

The use of excessive plastic was the key component to this image aiming to mimic the actual waste caused by plastic and other materials used within the fashion industry that cause environmental damage to our oceans and land.

Plastic waste which was collected by myself was used to recycle and fashion into a large ornate headdress.

The image is the second in a series of images that aims to showcase a different ethical issue of the fashion industry for my major project.

DIRTY FASHION
York College Media Makeup HE

This concept is based on the consumption of disposable fashion due to pressures of keeping up with trends and styles.

The pile of clothes is from my own wardrobe to show how personally myself and the majority give in to this pressure by continuously buying into this industry.

The fashion industry is the second largest polluter in the world which is where the title ‘Dirty Fashion’ came from.

The image is one of four that aims to highlight some of the main ethical issues and the lack of sustainability within the fashion industry as part of my major project.
