Why is deep conditioning essential to natural hair? Natural hair, as you all may know, is prone to dryness. Deep conditioners are a perfect way to restore moisture, maintain elasticity, strengthen hair and can be used as a means of damage prevention.
**Make sure your deep conditioner is alcohol, artificial color, mineral oil, petroleum oil, paraben and fragrance free.
**When you apply your conditioner make sure you have drained off the excess water. When your hair is too wet the conditioner will slide off and you will not get the best coverage.
**This is one of the few times that using heat causes a positive effect. Using heat when you deep condition expands the hair shaft and helps certain ingredients bond to the cuticle. Keep in mind, using no heat is cool too. Although your hair will still absorb the nutrients, it may take longer. For a convenient way to use heat to deep condition, try using a thermal deep conditioning cap.
**Use cool water when you rinse. Always remember that warm water opens the hair shaft and cool water closes the cuticle. You may lose all of the nutrients you attempted to put in your hair if you rinse with warm water.
