GOOD MORNING ☀️🌞 HAVE A GOOD DAY

MORNING TEA. THE WORD FOR TODAY
MONDAY APRIL 24, 2023.

"BEWARE OF SELF-PITY"

“No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.” 1 Corinthians 10:24 NIV

SELF-PITY CAN be deadly. It tells the wife and mother who works hard, “You’re not appreciated.” It says to the office worker, “Look how valuable you are, yet you’re never recognized or rewarded.” It says to the unemployed, “No chance!” To the divorced, “No place!” To the bereaved, “No hope!” And to the struggling, “No way!” Look at the prophet Elijah. Twenty-four hours after his greatest victory, he is deeply depressed and wallowing in self-pity. “I have had enough…Take my life…I have zealously served…But the people of Israel have broken their covenant with you, torn down your altars, and killed…your prophets. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me, too” (1 Kings 19:4, 10 NLT). There it is—self-pity in the raw!

Generally speaking, there are two reasons behind self-pity. The first is emotional manipulation. We use self-pity as a weapon to guilt-trip others and get our own way. That’s immaturity and you have to deal with it, whether it’s in yourself or somebody else. On the other hand, self-pity can also stem from sheer exhaustion. Recorded in the Old Testament, God showed Elijah four things that were necessary to getting himself back on track:

(1) He needed more rest. (2) He hadn’t been eating right.
(3) He had taken his eyes off God and was trying to do everything in his own strength.
(4) He was isolated and needed a friend. So, God gave him Elisha. That did the job, and the next time we see Elijah, he is back on top.

Take a moment today and think about how these four truths apply to your life.

GOOD MORNING ☀️ 🌞
HAPPY WEEKEND

MORNING TEA. THE WORD FOR TODAY
SATURDAY MARCH 25, 2023.

"STEPS TO FORGIVENESS (2)"

“Forgive, and you will be forgiven.” Luke 6: 37 NIV

HERE ARE three more steps to forgiveness:

(1) Accept people as they are and don’t try to change them. You say, “I’ll only forgive them if they change.” That just keeps you tied to them, obsessing over what they did and demanding they act in ways that you approve of. Nothing makes people less willing to change than when you try to control them and demand that they meet your requirements. Changing people isn’t your job—it’s God’s job! Your job is to choose to forgive and leave the outcome in God’s hands. The formula for healing is simple: forgive, let go, and let God.

(2) See your offender as God’s tool for your growth. It’s easier to forgive someone when you stop seeing them as Satan’s agent sent to destroy you, and begin seeing them as God’s instrument to develop you. The life of Joseph speaks to this principle. The path that led him from the pit to the palace was paved by injustice, disappointment, and betrayal. But God used each painful circumstance to get him to his destiny. And God can do that for you.

(3) Try reconciling with your offender. Reconciliation is God’s nature. “When we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son” (Romans 5:10 KJV). And what God did for you, He wants you to do for whoever you are at odds with. Jesus made reconciliation a top priority by saying, “Leave your gift there before the altar…First be reconciled…then come and offer your gift” (Matthew 5:24 NKJV). Yes, it will take selflessness and humility on your part, but the return is worth the investment!
