Happy Independence Day, Ghana
Ghana is doing something no other West African country is doing. We are the only one offering a BSc in Herbal Medicine. Imagine that: our grandparents' herbs, our ancestors' wisdom, now being studied in university classrooms.
Young Ghanaians are learning to turn the leaves our mothers boiled into real medicines that heal. That's not just education, that's honoring where we come from while building where we're going. Now that's something worth celebrating. Happy Independence Day!!!

Obesity – which the World Health Organization classifies as a disease – is not just an individual issue; it is shaped by the systems people live in. Research shows that urbanisation, economic status and food marketing strategies, for example, play a role along with more personal factors.
Rapid urbanisation and associated changes in people’s lifestyle mean Africa faces a growing obesity problem. Increased urbanisation is associated with lifestyle changes such as decreased physical activity. This is often accompanied by increased intake of high caloric fast foods and sugar-sweetened beverages

Behind every bottle of herbal medicine or bundle of medicinal leaves is a chain of hardworking individuals. Farmers cultivate medicinal plants. Harvesters gather them from forests and farms.
Herbal practitioners carefully prepare remedies. Traders transport them to markets. Processors package them neatly, and manufacturers produce standardized products for wider distribution.
Each of these steps creates jobs and income. In many communities, especially rural areas, herbal medicine is not just about healing, it is about survival and economic stability.

🚨🚨That bag of chips you swore you'd only eat a handful of. The energy drink that somehow turns into three. The late-night fast-food run—whether it involves pizza, burgers or tacos—that feels impossible to resist. A new study suggests that it's not just about willpower.
In other words, it may not be by accident that certain snacks feel impossible to put down, said study first author Ashley Gearhardt, U-M professor of clinical psychology and an expert at U-M's Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation.

: Indigenous fruit trees provide vital nutrients that may be scarce in other food sources. They are naturally adapted to local soils and climates, can enhance food and nutrition security and often adapt and survive environmental stresses better than exotic species.
Our research showed that indigenous fruit trees, which occur across different ecological zones in Africa, are rich sources of vitamins, minerals, protein and valuable phytochemicals. They also have recognised medicinal value and are used as therapeutic remedies by many people especially in rural areas with limited access to orthodox health care.

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has dismissed as unsafe and unacceptable a viral video circulating on social media showing beans being preserved with a white powdery substance believed to be cement.
The Authority said the practice depicted in the video was not part of approved Ghanaian agricultural or food preservation methods and was not recognised by any relevant regulatory body in the country.
A statement issued by the FDA and copied to the Ghana News Agency clarified that the Plant Protection and Regulation Services Directorate (PPRSD) of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture does not recommend or endorse such a preservation method.
