Meet the

The Queen Bee Runs the Baddest Matriarchy the World Has Ever Known!

She lives for up to five years. She lays up to 2,000 eggs a day. The whole hive revolves around her.

The worker bees, all females, do all the important work. They live for several weeks, produce all the honey, and vastly outnumber the males.

The males are the drones. They’re purpose is mating, and once that’s done, they die!

When the queen bee dies or gets sick, the rest of the females choose a baby successor with traits of a queen and feed her a special concoction of pollen and natural secretion called “royal jelly.”

The queen bee mates once and rules and expands her empire for the rest of her life.

VARIATIONS IN DIFFERENT HONEY TYPES

Colors of honey form a continuous range from very pale yellow through amber to a darkish red amber to nearly black and this fact can be attested to by lovers of this gift of nature. The flavor and aroma of honey vary even more than the color. Although there seems to be a characteristic “honey flavor,” almost an infinite number of aroma and flavor variations can exist. In general, light-colored honey is mild in flavor and a darker honey has a more pronounced flavor. Exceptions to the rule sometimes endow a light honey with very definite specific flavors.

So what accounts for all these variations?

Bee says...
Honey is composed primarily of fructose and glucose but also contains fructo-oligosaccharides and many amino acids, vitamins, minerals and enzymes. However, almost all natural honey contains flavonoides (such as apigenin, pinocembrin, kaempferol, quercetin, galangin, chrysin and hesperetin), phenolic acids (such as ellagic, caffeic, p-coumaric and ferulic acids), ascorbic acid, tocopherols, catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), reduced glutathione (GSH), Millard reaction products and peptides. Most of those compound works together to provide a synergistic antioxidant effect.

Natural honey contains about 200 substances, including amino acids, vitamins, minerals and enzymes, but it primarily contains sugar and water. Sugar accounts for 95–99% of honey dry matter. The principal carbohydrate constituents of honey are fructose (32.56 to 38.2%) and glucose (28.54 to 31.3 %), which represents 85–95% of total sugars that are readily absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract.

The principal physical characteristics and behavior of honey are due to its sugars, but the minor constituents – such as flavoring materials, pigments, acids, and minerals – are largely responsible for the differences among individual honey types. The difference in the variations of different honey types arises from the variations in proportions of these numerous chemical components that make up natural honey which depends honey bee's floral source for feeding.
