The Savannah Fruits Company
Processing and export of unrefined and refined handcrafted Conventional and Organic Shea Butter and other natural community processed oils
Our mission is to empower rural African women through community processing of the highest quality natural products, practicing a socially and environmentally responsible business while ensuring the value addition at source is maximised. We work with local cooperatives, empowering women in a sustainable, profitable manner. We offer a fully traceable supply chain and logistics from start to finish:
The place of communities at the source risks getting lost if we don’t shift how their stories are told today.
Last weekend, which also happened to be Weekend and the Weekend of , we took the stories of women in on an 11-hour journey from the savannah landscapes to the coast of Busua. For the first time, these women were presented beyond the butter and on their own terms, shaping how they wish to be seen and represented.
Hosted by , Magajia by : a portrait-led documentation of four generations of women in shea developed under the Savannah Residency Program - found its first public home.
Odo Valley sits at the intersection of ecological dialogue and multidisciplinary interpretation, and the gathering powerfully reflected that spirit through ODO” 57: from Fufu & Friends by , to sound and music by , reflections by on his journey, a photographic conversation on galamsey by ,and a wider community of enthusiasts, cultural & environmental practitioners.
Together, it became a space where documentation, interpretation, and cultural dialogue met around the ecosystems and communities that sustain them.

We often fear that modernization erodes originality, and in many cases, it has. However, a harsher truth is that the lack of modernization often results in stagnation, and stagnation, more often than not, pushes communities at their source to the margins of the very ecosystems they built.
So, we asked ourselves:
What would it look like if communities at source were in charge of their own growth and modernization, applying the knowledge that has protected their ecosystems for centuries to the contexts of today, for their protection tomorrow?
Between 2023 and 2024, we explored this question in collaboration with our partners through SHEA RISE: Resilient Infrastructure for Shea Ecosystems. SHEA-RISE explores a decentralized modernization framework that anchors industrial progress in local governance - through community-owned post-harvest centers, youth participation, and regenerative production models that protect both livelihoods and the ecosystems that sustain them, all backed by a digital traceability system that is anchored in transparency and accountability
