We often say that your purchases positively impact the lives of women and children in rural northern Ghana, but we'd like to get a little more specific so you know how you've made a difference.

Our founders, Gifty and Wayne, believe that business should be a force for good, integrating social value, business value, and environmental stewardship. This is how we're making it happen:

Working with women and communities - Baraka Shea Butter is Community Certified Fair Trade which means that we pay a premium price for our shea butter and work closely with the women to determine their community priorities.

Children and education - Some initiatives we have worked on include purchasing school uniforms and supplies, girl child education, purchasing sports equipment.

Economic development - We work to improve economic development by training the women on income generation activities and we also encourage our producers to become involved with organizations that can provide micro-credit support.

Environmental stewardship - Taking care of our planet is important to us which is why Baraka Shea Butter is a waste not product. Every single component of the shea nuts are used for a different purpose; even the shea nut shells are used for fuel! We are actively involved in the conservation of Ghana's fragile savannah and help with shea tree regeneration.

Sustainable development goals - We help our producers work towards meeting their community and sustainable goals by looking for innovative and sustainable ways to support the ongoing social and economic areas where our goods are produced, protecting our ecosystem, and achieving financial sustainability to support everyone involved with Baraka.
