Seven longtime friends from Guangzhou, China, turned a joke about retiring together into a real plan. After more than 20 years of friendship, they pooled roughly $580,000 to purchase and renovate an old house in a rural village outside the city. The modern home now features private bedrooms, shared living spaces, glass walls and views of the surrounding rice fields and mountains.
