Here are 3 tips for washing your locs properly:
1. Use a residue-free shampoo
Regular shampoos leave behind buildup that gets trapped in your locs and slows down the locking process. Always use a clarifying or residue-free shampoo specifically formulated for locs to keep them clean and buildup-free.
2. Dilute your shampoo before applying
Don't apply shampoo directly to your locs. Mix it with water first and apply it in sections, focusing on the scalp. This ensures an even clean without over-saturating your locs and making them harder to dry.
3. Dry your locs thoroughly after washing
This one is critical â never leave your locs damp for too long. Moisture trapped inside locs leads to mildew and an unpleasant smell that's hard to get rid of. Sit under a hooded dryer or use a blow dryer on a low heat setting to make sure they are completely dry from root to tip.
