On September 22, 2006, in Pocatello, Idaho, 16-year-old Cassie Jo Stoddart was house-sitting for relatives, joined by her boyfriend, Matt Beckham. What should have been an ordinary quiet evening turned into one of the most disturbing crimes in modern true crime history.

Earlier that night, two classmates, Brian Lee Draper and Torey Michael Adamcik, visited the home. The group watched a movie together before the two left, claiming they were heading out to a theater. Before leaving, however, one of them secretly unlocked a door, setting the stage for what they had already planned.

Instead of going to a movie, Draper and Adamcik returned to their car, changed into dark clothing, gloves, and white masks, and re-entered the house undetected. Their actions were not impulsive. Evidence later revealed they had carefully planned the attack in advance, recording videos discussing their intentions and desire to commit murder for notoriety and thrill, drawing clear inspiration from the 1996 film Scream.

While hiding inside the home, they attempted to manipulate the environment, making noises and tampering with the power, to lure Cassie downstairs. She remained upstairs, increasingly uneasy. Around 11:30 PM, Matt’s mother arrived to pick him up. Cassie declined to leave with them, choosing to stay behind to fulfill her responsibilities.

Shortly after she was alone, Draper and Adamcik carried out their attack. Armed with knives and wearing masks, they ambushed Cassie and stabbed her repeatedly. She was later found on the living room floor.

The investigation quickly uncovered critical evidence, including the perpetrators’ own video recordings. These tapes documented not only their planning but their mindset, removing any doubt about premeditation. In 2007, both were convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. Each received a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

A two-week solo trip across the American West was supposed to end with a flight home to Australia. Instead, 26-year-old Melbourne resident Sally Grace Contarino has been reported missing, leaving her family searching for answers from thousands of miles away. Sally traveled to the United States alone with plans to visit Las Vegas, Mount Charleston and Southern California. She had been staying at Bungalows Hostel on South Las Vegas Boulevard for five days.
Surveillance cameras captured her returning there during the early hours of June 20 after leaving Timbers Bar & Grill.

According to her family, she was last seen in the Mount Charleston area, a popular mountain destination about 35 miles northwest of the Las Vegas Strip. Australian media also report the last photo she shared from her trip was taken there. Her family says Sally had stayed in regular contact throughout her vacation before communication suddenly stopped on June 20th.

Sally was due to return to Australia on June 21st. She had reportedly purchased a bus ticket from Las Vegas to Los Angeles to catch her flight home, but the ticket was never scanned. She never boarded the bus, never got on her flight, and hasn't been heard from since. Exactly what happened after her time in the Mount Charleston area remains unclear. Police have asked hospitals throughout the Las Vegas area to check their records as investigators continue piecing together Sally's movements, hoping someone remembers seeing the young Australian traveler before she was due to begin her trip home.

In August 2017, 22-year-old Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind, 8 months pregnant, went upstairs in her Fargo, North Dakota apartment building to help a neighbor with a sewing project. She was never seen alive again.

The neighbor, Brooke Crews, had been faking a pregnancy to keep her boyfriend, William Hoehn, from leaving her.

After he told her to produce a baby or he would go, she lured Savanna inside, knocked her unconscious, and used a box cutter to cut the baby from her womb.

The infant girl survived. Investigators said Hoehn came home and tied a rope around Savanna's neck to be sure she was d*ad.

For days the couple passed the newborn off as their own while Savanna's body stayed hidden in the apartment.

Hoehn later dumped it, wrapped in plastic, in the Red River. Police found the baby alive on August 24 and arrested them both; kayakers found Savanna's body days later.

Crews pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit m*rder, conspiracy to commit kidn*pping, and lying to police, and was sentenced to life without parole.

Hoehn was acquitted of the m*rder conspiracy but convicted of conspiracy to commit kidn*pping, and was eventually sentenced to 20 years.

Savanna's d*ath helped inspire Savanna's Act, a federal law addressing missing and m*rdered Indigenous women.

Thai authorities have charged 46-year-old Australian national Simon Carman with murder following the death of 17-year-old Tunchanok Donhomla, whose body was discovered stuffed inside a suitcase near railway tracks in Pattaya, Thailand.

The case began in the early morning hours of June 26, 2026, when Donhomla, known to family and friends as “Cake,” was seen with Carman near Pattaya Beach. Investigators say CCTV footage captured the pair walking together from the beachfront and entering Carman’s hotel around 3:30 a.m.

According to police, Donhomla had recently arrived in Pattaya with a friend. Family members later told local media it was her first visit to the city, which is known internationally for its nightlife and tourism industry. Her parents described her as a respectful and helpful teenager with no history of drug use or serious behavioral issues.

Investigators allege that after arriving at the hotel, an argument occurred between Carman and Donhomla. Carman reportedly told police the two had agreed to meet in exchange for 1,000 Thai baht, but a dispute developed when he allegedly offered only 500 baht. Authorities have not publicly detailed what occurred afterward, but prosecutors believe the disagreement escalated into a fatal encounter.

When Donhomla stopped communicating with friends, she was reported missing. Police launched an investigation and quickly identified Carman as a person of interest after reviewing surveillance footage. Officers searched his accommodation, collected DNA and fingerprint evidence, and seized a motorcycle as part of the investigation. However, Carman was no longer at the property.

As investigators intensified their search, Thai immigration officials issued an alert to prevent him from leaving the country. On June 27, authorities arrested Carman at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport just minutes before he was scheduled to board a flight to Perth, Australia.

Later that same day, police located a large black suitcase abandoned in a grassy area near railway tracks in Pattaya. Inside was the body of Donhomla. Investigators reported finding her clothing, shoes, jewelry, wallet, and other personal belongings in the suitcase alongside her body. Tattoos on the victim’s body reportedly matched photographs from her social media accounts, helping authorities confirm her identity.

Police stated that Donhomla had suffered visible injuries to her face and body. The exact cause of death has not yet been publicly released, pending the results of forensic examinations.

During questioning, Carman allegedly claimed he acted in self-defense, telling investigators that Donhomla attacked him with a knife. He denied intentionally killing her and reportedly expressed remorse to her family, stating that he was sorry and that the incident was “out of my control.”

Authorities have not publicly disclosed evidence supporting Carman’s self-defense claim. Investigators also questioned him about scratches and bruises observed on his neck and arms. Carman reportedly claimed the marks were caused by spiders at the condominium where he was staying.

Thai police have charged Carman with murder, concealment of a body, moving or destroying a body, and taking a minor between the ages of 15 and 18 for sexual purposes. Investigators noted that Thai law prohibits the sexual exploitation of individuals under the age of 18. Authorities have also indicated that Donhomla may have been using false identification, though the circumstances surrounding that allegation remain under investigation.

Donhomla’s parents, both from Kalasin Province in northeastern Thailand, traveled to Pattaya after learning their daughter had disappeared. While en route, they were informed that her body had been found. In emotional interviews, they rejected Carman’s public apology and stated they would never forgive the person responsible for their daughter’s death. They have called for the strongest punishment available under Thai law if he is convicted.

Carman remains in police custody as investigators continue gathering evidence and preparing the case for prosecution. Under Thai law, a murder conviction can result in life imprisonment or the death penalty, depending on the court’s findings and the circumstances of the offense.

A vigilante, known as the ‘Batman of Lagos de Moreno’, is wanted by police for allegedly chasing down and duct-taping suspected motorbike thieves to lampposts.

At least five men have been found duct-taped to street poles over the past 10 days, starting on 13 June in the area of Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, according to The Sun.

Many of the suspected thieves were discovered with mustaches, cat whiskers and the Spanish word for thief written across their faces.

Perhaps to send a message, the individual would leave the allegedly stolen bikes near the men to show off their crimes.
