Kombu is a low calorie, nutrient-dense food. One seven-inch piece of kombu contains roughly 10 calories, 0 grams fat, 0 grams cholesterol, 180 milligrams (mg) sodium, 340 mg potassium, 2 grams carbohydrate, 2 grams fiber, 4 percent calcium, and 12 percent magnesium. It also contains vitamin C, A, E, K, B-vitamins, iodine, iron, manganese, and copper.
Fucoidan, present in brown algae just like hondawara, was discovered in 1913 by Professor Kylin of Uppsala University in Sweden as a source of sliminess of kombu. Initially named “fucoijin,†the substance subsequently became known as “fucoidan†based on the international naming convention on sugars.
Fucoidan is a specific source of sliminess only found in brown algae such as kombu, wakame (mekabu) and mozuku, and a type of water-soluble dietary fiber. Chemically, fucoidan is a high-molecular polysaccharide whose main constituent is sulfated fucose. In addition to fucose, the saccharide chain that constitutes fucoidan also includes galactose, mannose, xylose and uronic acid. The name “fucoidan†does not represent substances of a given structure, but it is a general term that refers to high-molecular polysaccharides whose main constituent is fucose.

Resveratrol (RES) and genistein (GEN) are the dietary natural products known to possess chemopreventive property and also the ability to repair DNA damage induced by mutagens/carcinogens. It is believed that the therapeutic activity of these compounds could be primarily due to their interaction with nucleic acids but detailed reports are not available. We here explore the interaction of these drugs with nucleic acids considering DNA and RNA as a potential therapeutic target. The interaction of RES and GEN has been analysed in buffered solution with DNA [saline sodium citrate (SSC)] and RNA [tris ethylene diammine tetra acetic acid (TE)] using UV-absorption and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The UV analysis revealed lesser binding affinity with nucleic acids at lower concentration of RES (P/D = 5.00 and 10.00), while at higher drug concentration (P/D = 0.75, 1.00 and 2.50) hyperchromic effect with shift in the lambda(max) is noted for DNA and RNA. A major RES-nucleic acids complexes was observed through base pairs and phosphate backbone groups with K = 35.782 M(-1) and K = 34.25 M(-1) for DNARES and RNA-RES complexes respectively. At various concentrations of GEN (P/D = 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.00 and 2.50) hyperchromicity with shift in the lambda(max) from 260-->263 nm and 260--> 270 nm is observed for DNA-GEN and RNA-GEN complexes respectively. The binding constant (from UV analysis) for GEN-nucleic acids complexes could not be obtained due to GEN absorbance overlap with that of nucleic acids at 260 nm. Nevertheless a detailed analysis with regard to the interaction of these drugs (RES/GEN) with DNA and RNA could feasibly be understood by FTIR.

The Function of Nucleic Acid
Each type of nucleic acid carries out a different function in the cells of all living things.
DNA
DNA is responsible for storing and coding genetic information in the body. The structure of DNA allows for genetic information to be inherited by children from their parents.
As the nucleotides adenine, thymine, guanine, and cytosine in DNA will only pair in a certain sequence (adenine with thymine, and guanine with cytosine), every time a cell duplicates the strand of DNA can specify the sequence in which the nucleotides should be copied. As such, accurate copies of DNA can be made and passed down from generation to generation.
Inside DNA, instructions for all the proteins an organism will make are stored.
RNA
RNA plays an important role in protein synthesis and regulates the expression of the information stored in DNA to make these proteins. It is also how genetic information is carried in certain viruses.
The various functions of RNA include:
Creating new cells in the body
Translating DNA into proteins
Acting as a messenger between DNA and ribosomes
Helps ribosomes choose the correct amino acids to create new proteins in the body.
These functions are carried out by RNA with different names. These names include:
Transfer RNA (tRNA)
Ribosomal RNA (rRNA)
Messenger RNA (mRNA).

Overview
Glutathione is an antioxidant produced in cells. It’s comprised largely of three amino acids: glutamine, glycine, and cysteine.
Glutathione levels in the body may be reduced by a number of factors, including poor nutrition, environmental toxins, and stress. Its levels also decline with age.
In addition to being produced naturally by the body, glutathione can be given intravenously, topically, or as an inhalant. It’s also available as an oral supplement in capsule and liquid form. However, oral ingestion of glutathione may not be as effective as intravenous delivery for some conditions.
Glutathione benefits
1. Reduces oxidative stress
Oxidative stress occurs when there’s an imbalance between the production of free radicals and the body’s ability to fight them off. Too-high levels of oxidative stress may be a precursor to multiple diseases. These include diabetes, cancer, and rheumatoid arthritis. Glutathione helps stave off the impact of oxidative stress, which may, in turn, reduce disease.
An article cited in Journal of Cancer Science and Therapy indicated that glutathione deficiency leads to increased levels of oxidative stress, which might lead to cancer. It also stated that elevated glutathione levels raised antioxidant levels and resistance to oxidative stress in cancer cells.

Resveratrol Supplements May Help Lower Blood Pressure
Because of its antioxidant properties, resveratrol could be a promising supplement for lowering blood pressure (9).
A 2015 review concluded that high doses may help reduce the pressure exerted on artery walls when the heart beats (3).
That type of pressure is called systolic blood pressure, and appears as the upper number in blood pressure readings.
Systolic blood pressure typically goes up with age, as arteries stiffen. When high, it’s a risk factor for heart disease.
Resveratrol may accomplish this blood-pressure-lowering effect by helping to produce more nitric oxide, which causes blood vessels to relax (10, 11).
However, the authors of that study say more research is needed before specific recommendations can be made about the best dose of resveratrol to maximize blood pressure benefits.

In the scientific community anti-aging research refers exclusively to slowing, preventing, or reversing the aging process. While the future is looking very promising, there is presently no proven and available medical technology that slows or reverses aging in humans. (Although the jury is still out on the practice of calorie restriction and regular exercise). Nor is there any currently available method short of waiting for people to die to accurately measure the effects of an alleged anti-aging therapy

Ischemic Stroke
Most strokes (87%) are ischemic strokes.1 An ischemic stroke happens when blood flow through the artery that supplies oxygen-rich blood to the brain becomes blocked.
Blood clots often cause the blockages that lead to ischemic strokes.
