Did you know that the world's fastest animal, the Peregrine Falcon, can be found on Achill Island?
This bird is famed for its extraordinary speed, reaching over 320 kilometres per hour when diving to catch prey. However, during normal flight, its speed generally ranges around 65-90 kilometres per hour.
At least two breeding pairs reside on Croaghan and the best sightings occur between July and September during their fledging season. One favoured spot for sightings is the road to Keem where these magnificent birds can often be seen soaring above.
