Half a century is a long time for any business… but especially in an industry that changes as rapidly as hair and beauty. Blakes finally got to hold their celebrations last night and, judging by the turnout, this salon clearly means a huge amount to the people of Carlow and beyond. The place was packed as clients, friends, former staff and familiar faces all came together to mark the 50th milestone. There was also a lovely acknowledgement throughout the evening of the foundations laid by original owners John and Mary, who first built Blakes into such a well-known and trusted name over the decades.

A huge part of that success is also down to the incredible team, past and present, who have helped create the welcoming atmosphere and loyal client base the salon is known for. When people are still walking through the same doors week after week, decades later, you’re clearly doing something right.

What a milestone for Blakes, for Ruth and her team, and for the centre itself.
